I've read about the Alaska governor a while back and if she is indeed the pick then this is exciting news. She, from what I've read is a gutsy Governor.

Sarah Palin is going to make John McCain the next President of the US. She is incredible. I've had the chance to meet her on occasion and she's humble, warm, and extremely personable.

Where else can you find a governor that makes the cover of Vogue magazine one week, and then shows up in a photo of her in hip boots and a ball cap holding a silver salmon she just caught?

She's incredible -- and a genius of a pick.

I agree - point McCain. He just ripped the spotlight from Obama. It was already reported that Obama didn't get a bounce in the polls and this has now shifted the media spotlight completely away from him.

My bet is she will get hammered during the debates (talk about lack of experience). I also think he wanted to go with experience especially around the economy and go with Romney. He got scared after the Dem convention and decided he needed to do something risky that might pay off big and win over Hillary fans. I think it actually shows a little panic and in the end won't pay off like he wants.

I suspect the Democrats will brush her off as some sort of rube, and that would be their demise. She's tough.

How can they attack a VP candidate for lack of experience when their presidential candidate is mired in inexperience issues?

How can they accuse McCain of giving in to oil when she's put the spurs to big oil interests up here in AK?

How can they say McCain is the same old story when she's a reformer that came from outside and took on insider politics in AK?

How can they attack her without looking like condescending snobs or bullies?

She's the Democrats' worst nightmare -- a fashionable woman who's had a successful career while having five kids, is married to a blue-color husband, is a life-member of the NRA, actively hunts and fishes, gets her hands dirty with manual labor, has a son in the infantry about to deploy to Iraq, managed a pregnancy while governor, knowing she was carrying a child with Down Syndrome, and has union connections.

Awesome pick -- wait til the country figures out what Alaska already knows.

Here's another endorsement for her, (just removed from her website yestereday but hey, it's the internet era, nothing is ever gone forever)

Have to admit she has a deep knowledge on the issues of the day, both international and the minutia of domestic policy. Long track record too. Brave of McCain to pick such a strong candidate who has so much potential to outshine him. A subtle play to Hillary's supporters too, I'm sure they will pivot to McCain en mass now. Ms Palin stands where they do on isues so important to women. And then there's the electoral votes from Alaska, no more worries about them. Two terms as a city council person!

Will McCain switch his stance on ANWAR?

Oops there's more.

Palin Pleased with Obama's Energy Plan
Includes Alaska's Natural Gas Reserves

August 4, 2008, Fairbanks, Alaska - Governor Sarah Palin today responded to the energy plan put forward by the presumptive Democratic nominee for President, Illinois Senator Barack Obama.

“I am pleased to see Senator Obama acknowledge the huge potential Alaska’s natural gas reserves represent in terms of clean energy and sound jobs,” Governor Palin said. “The steps taken by the Alaska State Legislature this past week demonstrate that we are ready, willing and able to supply the energy our nation needs.”

In a speech given in Lansing, Michigan, Senator Obama called for the completion of the Alaska natural gas pipeline, stating, “Over the next five years, we should also lease more of the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska for oil and gas production. And we should also tap more of our substantial natural gas reserves and work with the Canadian government to finally build the Alaska natural gas pipeline, delivering clean natural gas and creating good jobs in the process.”

Governor Palin also acknowledged the Senator’s proposal to offer $1,000 rebates to those struggling with the high cost of energy.

“We in Alaska feel that crunch and are taking steps to address it right here at home,” Governor Palin said. “This is a tool that must be on the table to buy us time until our long-term energy plans can be put into place. We have already enjoyed the support of Alaska Senator Ted Stevens, and it is gratifying to see Senator Obama get on board.”

The Governor did question the means to pay for Obama’s proposed rebate — a windfall profits tax on oil companies. In Alaska, the state’s resource valuation system, ACES, provides strong incentives for companies to re-invest their profits in new production.

“Windfall profits taxes alone prevent additional investment in domestic production. Without new supplies from American reserves, our dependency and addiction to foreign sources of oil will continue,” Governor Palin said.

Seems like a smart choice. From what I've read about her, she sounds like a great lady. I hope that her and McCain can win it.
