A bunch O' bucks! On the top photo, the middle and right buck look decent, I think I'd pass on the left hand guy though.

They must be no more than a few weeks away from dropping the velvet.

All the mule deer look healthy and in good shape up here in the northwest corner. You mentioned unit 70, I'm assuming in Colorado? I believe that's in the southwest portion of the state where its still a bit drier than most of the state. Not sure how the deer are doing down that way.

Even with the abundance of mule deer up here, no one in our family drew out this year either... bummer...

Elkman these photos were taken just south of Craig, almost within the city limits and not far from the Yampa River.

I've been to the Cedar Mountain area, and the mule deer look healthy & plentiful up there as well. I'm not familiar with the Steel Ranch however...

Cowgal: I know where you are talking about. I have seen the deer there before. You’re right they are in the city limits of Craig. Last year there was a terrific one grazing out near the tracks.
I do love the Craig area and the people there, I’ve been hunting there since 1985. It’s always been a good trip.
I'll be there in October>

Scott,

Contact the DOW at http://wildlife.state.co.us/hunt/
they put out a big game brochure that includes applications & all the info you need about seasons, deadlines to apply and of course all the units in Colorado. I could not find the brochure on the website, but do contact them by phone or email & request it.

Here in northwest Colorado you can also contact the Craig Chamber of Commerce http://www.craig-chamber.com for more detailed & topo maps of this area.

Good luck!

nice bucks!

I think the antler growth this year is good.
I'm not familier with deer in colorado but the deer in nebraska look good, antlers are heavy and the deer are fat and healthy!

2506deerslayer the deer look good and healthy in Colorado as well, at least in the areas that have gotten some moisture this year. Not sure how they're doing in the southwest corner where they still haven't gotten much relief from the drought.

Cowgal,
The moisture was really good until july and after that it has been dry, but I think they got the nutrition they needed early enough to have good growth, I used to work with my dad on a ranch in N.central nebraska but now I work as a welder so I don't see a whole lot but he told me just the other day he seen 8 bucks, none was under a 4 point not including brow tines and the biggest was a 170 class deer! big for my area and 2 others were 150 to 160 class and the others were young bucks with good potential! so hopefully I will have some good hunting in the years to come.
