This is a great bd. I am hunting antelope at the Bigbee Ranch in section 30 of Wy this October. I am hunting with three friends and there is not an ounce of antelope hunter in the three of us combined.

I am interested in what the area's terrain is like and what questions we should ask the rancher before heading out. Any feedback or direction would be appreciated.

Also I would love to see some comparison pics of average vs. trophy bucks.

BTW all of my party hunts pretty hard but mostly white tail, hogs and turkeys. We are from florida and this will be our 1st western trip.

Welcome.

I haven't hunted that unit, but guess it is like the rest - open.

I don't think there is much to ask the rancher - what are the ranches boundries and is there a place that you've seen antelopes more than others.

Be prepared for longer shots - 200 yards or more.

Unlike whitetails you can hunt antelope all day long - not just morning and afternoon. And, you should see plenty.

You're gonna want good optics and a flat shootin' gun. And CVC is right, your probably gonna be shootin 200 yards or more in most cases because the country is so open. So make sure you practice at the range ahead of time. i think if you have a rifle that your comfortable with, then use that one, don't worry so much about how big the caliber is. Antelope are small creatures, and it doesn't take much to take one down. For instance, the last antelope i shot was at 256 yards with a .243. That's my speed goat input :D

I have pretty good optics in binocs and scopes. I was planning on taking either my .243 mdl 70 or my .308 mdl 70.

Is the area in section 30 craggy or mostly rolling hilly plains?

In the south camo is a big deal but obviously mossy oak breakup may not be the best choice for Wy plains. Any suggestions?

Shot my first goat with my .30-06 and my second with my .243 so you're good with either gun. I am planning to use a .270 win this year.

Others may have different opinions, but I just used my mossy oak breakup camo and didn't seem to have any problems.

I hunt goats in the far northwestern corner of SD and chase them with my Winchester Model 70 .30-06 loaded with Remington Managed Recoil 125 grain bullets. Not necesarily becaude of the recoil, but because of the lighter grain bullet. I've hunted elk out in Wyoming and have seen what the state has to offer for pronghorn and it is just amazing! You're going to have a great hunt as long as you can shoot straight. Good luck!

I am a fairly good shot but I am spending soem additional time at the range on longer shots. This is my first western hunt but hope it will not be my last. I think elk is next on the menu
