What off-the-shelf load would you recommend for a semiauto (AR10) going after mule deer? I was thinking it would have to be some sort of ballistic tip to prevent damage to the projectile while chambering.

i'm not familiar with an AR-10, but if either are made in the caliber for your gun i would try winchester Ballistic Silvertip or remington Core-Lokt. I shoot the core-lokt out of my .270 A-bolt and the silvertips out of my .30-06 BAR. Both work very well for whitetail around here :grin:
