I drew a Mule Deer tag for Unit 44/45 this year. I have never hunted there and was wondering if anyone had any tips. Not wanting your private honey-hole location, just any advise for first timers. Drove around close to Las Vegas and decided that I would scout elsewhere in a couple of weeks. From looking at the maps and Google Earth, I am interested in the area West of San Pablo. Any info would be appreciated.

Talked with a guy that works for me and grew up in Penasco NM, has hunted 44/45 most of his life to include last year. His suggestion for an area to look was the Tres Rotis area off SR 518. To the south of this area, no Monsters but a lot of solid bucks. If you have question please ask.

Thanks for your help. I will do some scouting around there. Another are I an going to look at is around North San Ysidro.

Being from Texas, hunting the mountains is new to me and my brother (he also drew the same tag), but we are pumped.

I am going to the Tres Ritos area in about 2 weeks to do some scouting. Thanks for the tip. I am also going to to the area South including North San Ysidro and east to the San Pablo area. ANyone know anything about the deer hunting in either of these two areas?

Contact local game warden/Pecos and also Forest Circus office in Santa FE(nice folk's) I heard there were some burns in 44/45 and it should be better than it has been, and my elk forcast is excellent herd health and size.
