|
|
I've got a Colorado elk hunt planned for this fall, and now have a reason to use the 1977 BAR I inherited from my dad. The rifle is a beauty, and I think the 10 rounds I put through it last week, doubles the number of times it has been fired.
Anyway, I am in the market for a scope. I can't afford to go top of the line, but I'm not going cheapo either. My buds that have been hunting Colorado for years tend to push me towards Leupold, but I really like the Nikon Monarch series. In particular, I am looking at the 2.5x10x42 with BDC reticle. I've found it for $359 online. What are some thoughts? Same vendor has the 3X12x42 with sidefocus for $20 more, but I'm not sure how the SF works.
What do you folks think? |

Got it. Brand loyalty really keeps the price up on those things. I guess I am just asking about Nikon. |

| Nikons are a great scope. I personally favor Leupold for the reason that it's still a very high quality product, and one of the last sporting optic still being made by Americans here in the USA, and still offered at a reasonable price. If it's a quality product at a reasonable price then I'll always chose American made over any other. Not saying that all the best stuff is still made here, but some still are. I don't think brand loyalty keeps the price up at all. But nothing wrong with Nikons either, it's a good quality scope for the money, you'll see a lot of them in use out in the field too. |

| I agree the leupolds are worth their weight in gold. Great product, great customer service and lots to choose from in every price range. |

| The more people I talk to, the more I find that guys tend to leave their variable power scopes on a particular setting. The only time they mess with it is at the range. |

| I tend to move mine around quite a bit, in the feild as well as at the range, but for the most part you could probably get away with a fixed power. |
