The Denver Post published a Sunday front page story about Kirt Darner, who has a long history of poaching.

Though Darner broke the law, we're disturbed by the tone of this article and the use of the words outfitter, hunting and hunter to describe him. If he broke the law, he's a poacher. If he stole the mounts, he's a thief. If he made up the hunting stories, he's a liar. This whole piece continues to promote the idea that there is something wrong with hunting & hunters. Read some of the comments and feedback this article has received.

I ran into Darner a couple of times in Portland at shows. Seemed to be a nice enough guy. Once told me that he would only hunt Antelope when he was in a wheelchair. What I did find that killing that many big bucks one would have to normally be dialed into private property or special winter hunting.
Everyone gets caught in the hunting world if they continue to poach. There is always someone that can't believe stories that are to good to be true.
Darner and his wife could have cleaned up their acts and continued to live a normal life revolving around hunting and their ranch. GREED IS A TERRIBLE THING!
Darner has has moved into the long list of those who ran the gambit and lost.
Jail time might be hard on a guy his age, but he will be able to tell sea stories of the great past of killing monster bucks and bulls.
