What time do you usually go out to the woods to get your area ready for the coming season? I usually go out to the woods at the end of august, and start clearing out the area where my stand is gonna be. The place I have had mine for the past three years right behind my house, I have to clear the trails than where I am gonna put the stand, because it is right on the side of a thicket facing a field. I know last year my brother in law was out in my stand and got a doe. He said she walked right under him and shot her with a 12 ga at less than 10 yards. needless to say, she just dropped right there in her tracks.

I have always been told though that the earlier you can get your area ready the better you will be come the season, because deer will adapt to the change. I don't wanna set up here in july because by the time the season gets here everything will be grown back. I like end of august, because archery opens the end of september here, and that is a month for deer to get used to the change.

Usually about the first week in september, which is when alot of people target shoot with their archery equipment, I am out there makin sure my Muzzleloader is on. Than when the adjustments are done, I just enjoy target shooting with it.

Today is the 4th of july, and instead of prepping for fireworks, I actually got my climbing stand out of the garage, and painted it camo green. Gettin excited about this huntin season. I feel lucky!

Due to the logistics and travel involved with my SK hunt I start prepping the day before, however if I tag out early I start building new ground blinds for the next year so I guess you could say I start a year early.

Locally I do my scouting and preping in late Sept/first week of Oct. Then I don't come back until a couple days before the opener for quick "in and out trip" just make sure everything's still where it should be.

I had everything done 2 months ago. If I need a bit of trimming, I'll do it when I get there. I always keep my trmiming to a minimum. The less activity in the area the better.

As far as scouting is concerned, I start the day after the season is over.

The only way I'll step in the woods between now and hunting season, is if I gain access to a new piece of property. I will only glass from afar to watch what is there from now on.
