| I am a beginner on the Utah Bowhunting scene and really love the sport so far. I am very frustrated with my lack of knowledge in quality places to hunt for elk. I realize everyone has "their" hot spots, but if anyone is willing to help out a "green horn" get a nice start in the sport I would be forever grateful! |

Welcome to the board Packman!
I don't live or hunt in Utah; however I have hunted near the northeastern Utah/Colorado border. Northeastern Utah (like Northwestern Colorado, and southwestern-western Wyoming) offers a lot of public access land for mule deer and elk hunting. Based on my experience this would be a good region to go for elk.
Here is some Utah DOW info on this region:
http://www.wildlife.utah.gov/02biggameboundar.htm
They talk about the Wasatch region around Salt Lake Provo too. Around the time of the Olympics they were having a lot of problems with elk, so you may look into hunting that region as well.
Hope this info helps, good luck, and hope to see you around. |

I have been hunting Elk Archery in Utah for several years (about 7 total). Also some rifle in Colorado. My current focus has been on the South Slope of the Unitas for the last three years. I’m always after that big trophy bull that seems to always get away. I’m looking for someone to share information with. I have some places that I haven’ t hunted yet but feel they could produce based on my knowledge of the areas that I have hunted. We should start some dialog and maybe we could benefit each other. My email account is Harlan.Pooley@netzero.net
What type of elk hunt are you interested in? Cows, spikes, or large bulls? How new to hunting are you?

I am also new to bowhunting elk in Utah. I've taken some with a rifle but still haven't stuck my first elk yet. I usually hunt the Uintahs, this last year I took a 4x4 bull on the south slope. You guys can shoot me an e-mail at kris.marble@acs-inc.com

| I have seen and taken a good bull on the south slope, I have a new interest in bowhunting them though, I have found that not alot of people give the thought of really scouting and hunting the extended unit in salt lake county, I have seen some really dandy bulls up there and am going to focus on that area for the entire hunt this year, even during the general season |
