I am just looking for alittle advice for what to do with squirrels after you shoot them are they worth eating. This is my first year hunting and i have been out for archery and rifle season but would like to spend more time hunting and squirrels seem like they would be alot of fun but i don't want to kill them and not know what to do with them.

I went out squirrel hunting for the first time last weekend and had a blast. The squirrel meat is quite good, tastes exactly like chicken, if you were eating a leg you would know the difference. I would reccomend only targeting the black/gray ones as they are a bit bigger. Head shots are a must, there isnt' a lot of meat to ruin so you need to be careful.
I would love to hear some other opinions on the subject, see if I'm way off the mark or not.
good luck

I use a .22, and if it isn't available, a .410 is as big as I go. after I skin them and cut the head, feet and tail off. I keep the squirrel tail in a ziplock bag with salt, than I have a board I keep them on. They make an interesting discussion piece:) anyhow, I take them home and cut them down and use flower and cornmeal and fry them up, either in a pan or deep fryer, just like you would chicken.....delicious :thumbsup1:

Gravy from the drippings is a real treat with some big, fluffy biscuits!

Squirrel is way better than chicken IMHO. Chickens eat their own(well you get the picture).....

Cant wait to get some!! Our squirrel season opened up last saturday but for me its a bit early yet for squirrel, simply because they are full of wulves. I shot 5 last year, and of those 5 only 2 of them were fit to eat, which isnt much for a fella like myself. lol
