And this just in from Jim Andrews, a senior meteorologist from Accuweather, who looked at the devastation in Myanmar and said:
"The impact was maybe the same order of magnitude as Hurricane Katrina...."
Let's see...Katrina killed fewer than 2,000 people. Myanmar is looking at possibly 100,000 dead. And while Katrina occurred in a modern society, Myanmar's a third world country run by a brutal dictatorship without the means to deal with it and too much pride to accept help.
Oh, yeah...that's almost as bad as Katrina.

| Yeah well, he's a meteorologist. Spending too much time staring at clouds can affect the brain. |

Yeah shows how context is important. I think the quote was referring to the magnitude storm and the geography of the land it struck. In this sense they probably are similar.
What's different is the response before, after, and during the storm.... |

It's tragic when something like this happens. Very tragic!!
Even more tragic is when an act of God destroys hundreds of sqaure miles and the modern day mentality is that the government should have an easy switch to flip and make it all normal again over night. :](*,)
When are people going to get back to reality? Katrina was a devistation and I imagine this one in Myannmar was even 10 times worse. Wake up America.....THERE IS NO EASY BUTTON FOR THIS KIND OF STUFF!!!!!! |

| I'm still waiting to hear someone blame it on Bush. It's either due to global warming, which is Bush's fault, or the fact that Bush didn't force aid into Myanmar against their will. Or it could be that Bush did this with his secret weather machine so that Halliburton could go in and rebuild. |

| Yeah I hear ya. I'm sure Bush made all that devistation happen in Myanmar with that easy button that he didn't use for the Katrina cleanup  . I'm sure we will see a lot of scams arise from this too. We'll see people and organzation want to collect money for relief efforts, and we all know the Myanmar dictatorship will intercept what aid they do get. I don't think the American people can contribute in good faith to the relief effort since our money, food, and supplies will be intercepted and going to all the wrong people anyway. Just like in Somalia and every other country with shredded warlord leadership where food aid is confiscated to fuel the corrupt warlords or dictatorship. |
