This is just a warning for those who don't know. Umatilla Tribal Fish and Wildlife recently cited 2 Non Indians for shed hunting on tribal land (Umatilla Indian Reservation), Umatilla rez is East of Pendleton OR. Umatilla Tribal Land is "Private Land" , like any private land, one cannot trespass on private land.
Anyone trespassing on Tribal Land will be cited, and also Umatilla tribe can hold any vehicles, trucks, atvs etc. up to 1 year. |

bad feelings here. It seems as if when I bring up something about "reservations" I always get negative feed back, even in my own home town Pendleton OR. Racism plays a big part. The government took away alot and gave us our lil' patch of land so I just would like for others to respect that, like I would do the same in return.
Reason I bring this up, is because these 2 people that were cited were riding around on 4-wheelers in a place where I wanted to hunt turkeys. Did I turn them in? No, I was about to pull into this creek and a couple Tribal Fish and Wildlife vehicles were in this place talking to a couple at the beginning of the road while others were crusing around on atv's and trucks shed hunting. And then later found out the whole story.
But I'm use to alot of negative feedback from others being a minority so I dont take anything to heart of what others say. But what the "moderator" said is nothing compared to what I've heard and chuckled a bit. I'm a fair person... |

Thethe tone of your post was very harsh and condescending. It suggested that you assume that we would trespass and needed a warning not to trespass. The point of my post was to reflect how I percieved your post. I don't think you need to be told that my land is private property, no more than I need to be told a reservation is private property.
Warning you to stay out of my backyard is not very friendly, especially considering we are all part of this hunting community. It was to reflect the unfriendly nature of your post.
You are the one that broke it into an issue of non-indians and indians. I may wrong, but I would think that one, regardless of whether they are an indian or not, if they are not a member of the reservation that they too are not allowed to hunt on the reservation either.
The negative feedback you got from me was not because of the subject reservation, but because you felt the need to warn me to stay off your private property.
You could have framed in a very differently way that I would haven't found offensive. |

I could ruffle some feathers on this or be banned outright, but so be it. You brought it up.
It has nothing to do with racism. It has to do with dual rights.
The fact that you can hunt on "my land" (federal, state and private land) and I can't hunt on yours (soveriegn) bears this out.
The fact that enrolled members of treaty tribes can vote to ban gambling and smoking in bars, yet promote and profit from these activities also shows the dual rights. I can not vote on tribal issues so tribal members should not be able to vote on mine.
Right now there are tribes trying to copyright plants and animals so they have the ability to generate revenue. It won't be long before the tribes fight the states to limit non-tribal hunting.
The past is the past and the treaties are outdated. Everyone needs to have the same set of rights. |

There is a reason why I'm a minority--I will always be, and majority will "always" rule, as it has shown in ALL of history, to this day, in this forum...
I apologize for the harsh words in my original post and should have added in "Non Enrolled Indians" too.
At least we all have one thing in common, we all love to hunt |

Hey rezhunter - we are all in the minority as hunters so we need to stick together.
So, how is the turkey hunting going? What species of turkeys do you hunt out there? |
