Hey everybody!

I am needing to replace my gun that was "lost" :](*,) during my divoce. It was a Savage 300. I am wanting something that will be capable of taking big game, but that I could also use for muleys without knocking them off the mountain. Also, I am looking for something that won't kill my wallet.

Here are some guns that I have been looking at, and I would like some feedback please. I found a Tikka T3 Lite SS 338, but I would also need to get a scope for it which would put the cost well over 1k. There are a ton of 300 WSM out there, and I was also looking at a Savage 16FxP3 package 325 WSM (includes the scope) for just over $600. I am wondering if there is a reason that this Savage is so much cheaper (there usually is).

Any help/feedback would be appreciated!!!

Either of those rifles would perfectly fit the bill. The tikka rifles are supposed to be slightly higher on the fit and finish factor, the savage while cheaper and not as nice looking for me handled just as well. Both rifles have excellent reputations for accuracy and dependability, but with the savage you will eventualy want/have to replace the scope that comes with it.
Since you seem to want a magnum have you considerred at the 7mm wsm, .270wsm or classic 7mm rem magnum? I only ask cause I looked long and hard at a .325wsm model 70 but decided against it since I can't get ammo localy. About 2 years ago I stumbled across a slightly older wood stocked savage in .280 remington, I'm still kicking my self for not finding away to get my hands on it that day, what I'm trying to say is if you just want a slightly unique rifle capable of elk, moose and deer take a quick look in some local stores and private sales for something similar, who knows you may find a truly unique weapon that you'll fall in love with. You can get either the tikka or savage whenever you want from any firearms dealer more or less.

I almost forgot the savage can change calibers with the swapping of a barrel and a bolt face as long as the action is the right length.

And you can change out the boltface part easy enough also.
But to the nuts and bolts of Savage ?,,,,,That design is relatively less costly to produce, and they don't spend a lot in the frills. Other than that, they are generally quite accurate, and a good buy for the money.

just picked up a t3 tikka camo stainless...looks great and shoots like a dream...action is like butter unbelievable!! worth the extra money!! :thumbsup1:
