Butler,
How'd you do?
Got myself a 950 lb bull with a 51" spread. Not bad for a couple of flatlanders, eh? We saw 3 the first day out (a cow with a calf and a bull) but never had any clean shots. Then saw nothing for the next 2 1/2 days. On the morning of day 4, I shot a bull in a field we'd scouted the night before. What a job getting that thing out. We found it down at about 8 am and didn't check it in until nearly 4 that afteroon (after taking a hour-long break when lightning cracked right over us.) Snow, thunderstorm, 4 days of hunting, 8 hours of hauling, 500 lbs of meat and 6 months until that big boy is hanging on my wall. Good times! |

Bastard! We unfortunately didn't get one. We tried hard, and were in the woods all but about 8 hours of the eligble time. Oh well, the process was great, so that's the important part.
Congrats on that nice big bull!

Sorry you didn't have better luck. Sounds like you got to spend a lot of good time with your sub, anyway. As long as you had fun. Keep applying to other states. Your number might come up in Maine at some point.
Did you stay in that area or go home each night? We were camped out in the WMNF and made it out to some local bars at night. Sweet jeezis. Every hard-drinking local tells you where their wife's cousin's friend's brother saw a moose 8 years ago and expects that when you get one, you'll return with steaks to pay them for their trouble. |

I will have a base camp in Carroll and have been looking at the northern part of my zone with internet aerial photos but, first hand info is what I am looking for. I live in Barrington and plan to scout a lot and also take a plane ride over the area that seams to get the most response for this forum.
I'm also up for a float hunt as I have gear to do so also. If any have info on a good river to float that would be great Too!
To the Gun: 6.5-284 Encore 24" barrel Bullet Barnes 140-grain XLC FB 2800 fps. Energy 200 yds 2033 So, what do you all think? or what!
Thanks

Steve,
I wish you good luck. I'm in Hampstead and haven't drawn yet. One of the guys that works for me did draw up around Sandwich, not sure of the unit. He's been scouting pretty hard and hasn't found his spot yet. Hope ya get one. It's elk for me this year again.....not so bad. I would have skipped elk season if I drew a moose tag, not enough vacation time. |
