I wanted to try this combination for this years Colorado elk hunt. I just received my new Hornady FPB the other day. Has anyone tried this combination? Is it OK to shoot 350 grain conical with the new Blackhorn 209 powder? I wrote BH but they haven't e-mailed me back yet.

An FPB? I'm unfamilar with that acronym, is this a new conical?
If its a lead conical I would just start it with 60 grains of powder and work up or down. I haven't shot the Blackhorn stuff, but I suspect it has the same loading as triple7. Western Powders is a good company and they should give you some sort of guidance. |

Hello from Germany!
Tested my CVA buckhorn .50 rifle today with 240 grs .44 sabbots and 90 grs WANO PP. At 50 yards I got a very good three shot group freehand. All shots within a 2,5''. I think the inliners work best with these sabbots, because when I tested my rifle with heavy conicals it didn't work very well and head a bad recoil.
BTW does anybody know what the effective distance of sabbots is?

I started with 70 grains of Blackhorn 209 and worked my way up to 90 grains. I was shooting at 60 yards and had 5" groups. I was hoping it would group tighter. It seemed to shoot better with the heavier loads.
Kirrmeister, I hear of people shooting sabots out to 200 plus yards and killing deer. |

A trusted friend says to use 110g of BH209 and compress the FPB load as tight as you can. Read below:
"all three of my TC's will shoot minute of angle with BH209 and FPB's 110 gr and 1800fps according to my old chrony [it is one of the originals and might not be as accurate as the new ones, but its still works. NO more wads and corn meal!!! Lee"
