Hi,
I need help choosing a 1911. I love the look and feel of them, but i kinda want to get a 9mm because of the bullet price...i want to kill two birds with one stone....I like the feel of the springfield loaded and was wondering if anyone has the 9mm version? if not, has anyone heard if the spring. loaded 9mm is a good gun? Thanks for your input. |

The springfield's are good guns. A 9mm 1911 can be a fast gun and fun gun to shoot.
You might try a used sig P225. These are single stack, metal frame, that handle somewhat like a 1911 except the decocker and the double action.
Colt made some 9mm 1911's and I think STI is making one as well. |

| Any reason you are set on the 9mm instead of the 45 in the 1911 platform? There are some excellent 9mm handguns out there as well as the 40sw. |

| there's two main reasons: i love the all metal feel and look of the 1911s. but a 9 would save me a ton of money. i wouldnt mind a 45, but i personally dont like the amount of kick it has. i have looked into other 9's, specifically the spring. xd, which feels great in my hand, but i kinda want a gun that has that solid metal feel of a 1911. any suggestions? thanks again for your advice. |

| I certainly see your point about price in 9mm vs .45. Even prices in 9mm ammo has nearly doubled in the last 4 years. All of my 1911's are Colt, and chambered in .45. I find myself shooting a lot less .45 ammo that I used to. Since it's hard to find anything from Colt on the commercial market anymore, go with Springfield. The Springfields are Brazilian and Venensuelan made frames, but are pretty good quality 1911s for a reasonable price. My buddy has a mi-spec full size Springfield 1911 in .45 and really likes it. I don't see why 9mm would be any less reliable. In fact 9mm with it's slightly tapered case is actually a bit better feeding. If you want an excellent reliable all steel single action pistol in 9mm I'd suggest my favorite - FN/Browning Hi Power MkIII. |

| I recently bought the Smith and Wesson 1911 (SW1911PD) in Colt .45 and I have only one issue with it. The slide release lever isnt very user friendly as it requires the operator to make an extra effort to release it, slowing down the time it takes to engage your target after changing clips. Other than that, I love it! :D |

| Rather than using the slide lock as a slide release try an over the top or sling shot release (while at slide lock reload or loading). While the slide lock can be used in a pinch it requires fine motor skills in order to use it. Under stress that can cause a disaster. If you are comforatable and train with it as a slide release you can use a fine steel wool to smooth it out or some emory (sp) cloth. My 2 cents. |

| Thanks for the advice! I am pretty new to the pistol world, Ive always been into rifles for the most part. Im actually going to a CCW class on the 4th and I just want to make sure I dont look like a yuppy, which im about as far from as you can get. But more importantly, i want to know what im doing and be able to do it in a safe manner. As far as cost to shoot the .45(as discussed in previous posts) Im used to going out 2 or 3 times a montha nd buying a couple boxes each time of 7mmWSM and going shooting(30-40 bucks/box of 20 rounds!!) so 100 rounds of .45 for 30 bucks?, I cant complain one bit! |

I was doing some brainstorming the other day on the topic of loading the magazine and releasing the slide after emptying the first mag: ::-k
I figure to eliminate the hassle of releasing the slide after emptying the first clip, you can subconciously keep track of how many rounds you have fired, and when you have fired 7 rounds, RELOAD! That way the 8th round has been chambered and the gun is ready to fire and all you gotta do is load the next mag(safely-with your finger off the trigger) and return to squeezing the trigger.
Another thing I taught myself after getting frustrated with the mag. release button and having to take the gun off alignment to release a mag, is to use my weak hand.......use the weak hand like normal: cup it and rest the gun hand in it to stabilize it, and after 7 rounds, just twist the bottom of your weak hand out of the way and at the same time use your weak hands thumb to press the eject button and then grab your next mag and load. :P It shaved off nearly a half second for me practicing "vice-presidente" down from 4 sec to 3.5 approx.
"vice presidente" is where you shoot 2rds at each of 3 targets and reload and do it again.( 12 rounds total) :D :thumbsup1:
Anyone that has any input feel free to comment. Thanks |

| They are called magazines not clips, Your tech. of counting rounds is going to go right out the window when that first round goes off in a gun fight. If your using it for gaming (nothing wrong with that I shoot IDPA) I don't see an issue. I like to practice and game like I play on the street. Best of luck. |
