Hello everyone, I am a GA hunter trying for elk in October. It's going to be me , my dad and my brother. I have never been. Can you guys give some knowledgable advice as to what we will need and what we might expect to bring or come across that we may need? I am really excited about the chance to hunt this area. And also what does it take to track down these exclusive elk. By the way my wife is not looking forward for me to take this trip one bit.
Thanks in advance |

well there are many things you're gonna need to chase some bulls around.
Your gonna be doing a lot of walking and a lot of glassing. A good set of binoculars are a must when elk hunting. And make sure you dress in layers because the weather in the colorado high country can change in minutes, especially in October. Those are just two basic things i would recommend.
These other guys on here will have some more ideas. |

A few more things you should bring.
GPS and know how to use it.
Good insulated hiking boots, you should make sure you break them in well before hunting in them. Mole skin for blisters.
Emergency blanket, fire starting materials.
A good caliber rifle, with a comfortable sling that you can shoot well out to 300+ yards.
Daypack, with rope, extra knife, extra ammo, extra water and anything else you might need, especially if you have to stay out overnight or get stuck in a blizzard. |
