Ok,now we are getting in to the down and dirty of elk hunting,we have covered guns,ammo,Archery,optics and what we all carry in our packs for our hunts.What kind of pack dose eveyone use.Fany,internal frame,frame,soft side back pack ect...List your total rig start to finish.
Here is mine,Rifle 300wsm,3x9 redfeild,165gr handloads,2 knives coustome made,2 hatchets coustome also,1 extra box of shells,8x42 nikon binocs,wind rive spoting scope and tripod,wool pants(asuming fall and snow conditions)gortex socks and thick hiking socks,various supplies for survival or meals,two shirts(1 long underwear,1 wool long sleeve,danner elk hunters 10" boots,belt,hat,gloves,and leg gaiters(to the knee),extra wool sweater,down vest and blaze orange.So let's hear yours.BBJ

Oh yeah my pack is a camelpak large with the water blater removed,it is narrow and don't hang up on branches when I'm on the sneek.:smile:

My list:(My Rifle list, bowhunting is another topic)

1. 7mm rem mag, 150gr. partition handloads, nikon monarch 5.5-16.5x44 scope
2. Day pack, soft side(about the size of a school book bag), contents in the "elk daypack" sbuject.
3. Comfortable waterproof boots, no more than 200-400 grams of insulation. Nothing worse than sweating then having it freeze. I get them as light as I can't afford to pay.
4. Wool socks, thermals if its cold, denim or wool pants depending on weather. Long and short sleeve t-shirt followed by botton up wool. Important to drees in layers while elk hunting. If really cold I wear a warm coat on top of it all.
5. Orange vest, orange baseball cap, orange knitted cap.
6. Neck gator when its cold and insulated leather gloves.

I think that covers it for me. I think next we're going to have to list a good elk "camp".

Hey that Camelpak idea is a good one! I just use a regular back pack and have gotten hung up more than enough times chugging through underbrush.

Thanks BitMaster,I've been using one for acouple years.It has plenty of room and pockets and the bladder pocket is insulated.If I go on a overnight hunt I can put a few goodies and a ice pack in there and have dinner and breakfast.I've crawled through some pretty thick stuff and it has made a world of diffrence.BBJ

Okay here's my list.

(1) 300 Win Mag Model 70 classic w/ Nikon Monarch 3x9x40 scope. I shoot 180g Nosler Partitons handloads.
(2) Crooked Horn Trail Blazer 2000 pack w/ extra ammo, flashlight, matches w/ kindling, food, 8x42 Nikon Monarch Binoculars, Nikon 800 yard range finder, 2 knifes, knife sharpener, bone saw, rope, meat bags, plastic grabage bag, compass, two way radio, small first aid kit, toilet paper and water. After reading the "Elk day pack" subject I'm going to carry a little bottle of bleach for cleaning up. I also have a frame pack that I keep in camp until we get somthing down.
(3) Rocky Pro Stalker boots with good socks. Long Johns under wool or denim jeans (weather dependent). Short sleeve and a Long sleeve t-shirt with a sweatshirt and a jacket. If it's raining pretty good I'll wear a Outback Oil Skin duster and a orange hat or stocking cap. I think that's it for me.
