When reloading a 17rem, I noticed some of my CCI 400 small rifle primers would pierce. The load was not over pressure and was in spec. With Remington 7.5 primers there was no problem. In researching the problem I ran across this nice article:

Turns out the cup thickness on the CCI 400 is a little thinner than some of the other small rifle primer offerings out there.
From talking to a few folks, it seems this is also a problem with 204 ruger, which has similar peak pressures as the 17Rem. |
