I dont know that area like the back of my hand but I would suggest the south and eastern part of the unit. It all depends on the weather. They like to move to lower elevations when the snow falls to stay warm and dont have to dig for food. Sometimes you can find a lone bull up higher in the snow but thats the key, finding him. Dont expect ANY bugling or anything like that. The only time I would suggest using a cow call is to stop a bull for a shot. You can try using calls but I highly doubt they would be any more useful than clomping through the woods like an elephant. They usually like to graze and soak up the sun first thing in the morning in clearings and such. If you can read sign you should be able to determine if where you are is a good spot. Hope this helps out. Good luck, hope you bag a nice one!

I have spent a lot of time huting elk in Unit 10 and all I have to say is you are a lucky man to have drawn this tag.
Around williams will have quite a few elk this time of year, but once the snow begins to fall they will migrate down to lower elevations. It is not neccessarily bad to scout around there now, but be prepared for when the snow falls to move on to other elk cause those ones are most likely out of there.
I would suggest going down to the lower elevations of the unit and finding your elk in there. I am assuming since your hunt is in Dec it is a cow hunt, but the same basic principles go for cows and bulls. In dec the majority of cows and bulls will be seperated into the gender heards again.
If you drop down to the lower elevations and find an elk this time of year the chances are they are non migratiory and they stay in the same basic area year around. The exception to that may be if you are right on the border of droping down. Like around ashfork mountain.
I am not to into giving hunters exact places to hunt you have to put in your own work, but I can point you in a good direction and that would be south west. I would suggest no farhter east than 10 miles east of ashfork. Otherwise those elk will move.
Anyway I hope some of this helps you, you have one of the premire elk hunting units in the country. (Bull anyway) Hunt hard and you should have a hunt to remeber. If you have any other questions feel free to ask I have spent a lot of time in 10!!!

I'v hunted area 10 for Elk ,turkey and Deer. I'v seen a herd of Cows moving between Kiabab lake and the hill to the North of the lake. They start moving around 8:00 am to bed down on the notheast side of the north hill. But you will have a lot of hunters in the same area also have seen Elk neer Holden lake area witch is off the golf coruse road noth of Williams. Hope this helps. :thumbsup1:

Just got back from Unit 10. Was up around Ash Fork and just north of there. Didnt see any elk but 1 spike and 3 cows. If I did see anything I couldnt take a shot because seemed like every time I turned around there was a run down shack with someone living in it. Anyone know what part of the unit is good for a nice size bull? Heading back up tomorrow am.

Yeah we also elk hunted in unit 10 the first week of Dec. We saw tons of deer, but no elk. This area is supposed to be one of the best areas for
big elk. We covered the entire area from the Williams to Espee Rd. No sign of elk anywhere. We saw lots of left over dead elk remains from previous
elk hunts. After the weather that went through we hunted a few days and moved down to Ashfork in the lower levels to see if they went low. Nothing there either. Im guessing they are way north in the unit or moved south of
I-40 in unit 8. We had a good time anyways. Next year putting in for 6A or
5B.

Hi, I wanted to let you know that you're not the only one who didn't have any luck in unit 10. My family and I have hunted this unit a couple times now, the last hunt we did was the Bull hunt in Nov, 07 and we had no luck we didn't even see any Cow Elk. We had talked to many hunters as well and they didn't have any luck. I'm actually very suprised that they keep giving out as many tags as they do for this unit. I don't think well put in for this unit anymore..Good luck this year!

I did get drawn for deer in 17B....and this is the area we call our "deer area".
I think we put Unit 10 as second choice....just in case. I have seen some nice
deer in Unit 10 when we were Elk hunting....go figure! Good luck to you as well.
I sure am looking forward to hunting...its my Christmas!!
