By far the biggest challenge to deer survival in NB this year is the 6ft of snow...I guess NS had a few tough winters like that in the mid 90's and the deer herd here is just now starting to come back from that.
I can't say that I remember those winters as those were (for me) the good old days, when we sailed in mid Jan for CARIB OPS; and after ensuring that the Snow Birds in Florida weren't being oppressed by locals, and that all was well in San Juan and Roosevelt Roads, PR we'd sail back to Halifax around mid April just in time to show off our newly painted ships to all the tourists.
Winter sucks. |

You would never know it by the amout of deer I've been seeing this spring so far the other day the wife and i went for a drive to havelock and petti all toll I counted 150 deer feeding in the fields and I'm sure I didn't see them all ,one field had as many as 50 and the total snow fall we had in my area was 300cm
...... the latest report out from DNR says the deer population has doubled in New Brunswick in the last two years ...and in Nova Scotia where i hunt the amount of deer being seen is unreal ! |
