This was posted on another forum and I wanted to get some of your oppions.
Is it fordiden, accepted, frowned on or wildly used ib excess. One youg genetle man wrote " I'm only 15 and last year my camp downd 2 btls BV and 2 gallons Jungle jucie by 3 pm opening day" he did say he was not drinking, I felt soory for him not having someone to show him the proper ropes.
Form me I guess I grew up knowing not to mix guns and alchohol together, but in camp it is used as an relaxation or conversation thing, and always a celebration for bagging the big buck or bull. We never leave camp or hunted drunk. Every year their is an accident of some sort due to hunting. So why complicate the matter. So tell me your feelings please.BBJ

I saw your same screen name on the other forum and wondered if it was you, apparently so. I've got the same screen name over there too.
It was sad to read that kids post because not only did it happen but that kid thought it was so cool. Every year up deer hunting there are "party" hunters getting drunk and shooting. I don't think guns and alcohol mix well.

I believe some can handle it and I don't think having a beer or two in camp would be a real big deal but really whats the point? No need for alcohol in my camp. I'm sure someone would wake up with a hangover and just be a pain in the britches for the rest of us. When I'm huntin and out all day no sense in coming back to camp for a drink. I only put things in my body out there that help me rejuvinate and get ready for another hard day.

I don't think alcohol and firearms should be used at the same time! I know hunting camps are famous for partying & drinking, but I really wish folks would think about what they're doing and how they're endangering not only themselves but everyone else around them. A little beer AFTER the hunting may be ok, but like rather_be stated, who wants someone with a hangover hunting with them.

I believe most (maybe all) states/provinces have laws against drinking and the use of firearms/hunting, so its illegal and unfortunate that kids are exposed to hunting in this manner.

Never have had alcohol in my camp and never will. Not just because of its effects but because I am there to hunt not party. i enjoy just being out there more than I do wanting to party. Want more of a clear head when waking in the morning and hiking ome of the hills I hike and believe alcohol breaks down the motivation of hiking some of them.

There's hunting or drinking---the two never mix.

In the evening, after the day's hunt is over and the guns are put away, I'll sometimes have some wine or a snort from a flask of whatever I might have brought with me. Drinking BEFORE or DURING the day's hunting is just plain stupid.

Depending on how much you drink the night before, you could be still legally intoxicated the next morning. Especially if you get up real early like most people do. My feelings, the alcohol should be left at home, period. It is not only illegal,it is just plain stupid. I don't think I could live with the thought I accidentally shot someone hunting because I was drinking. Same as drinking and driving, I don't do that either. Look in the regs, it is illegal. I know guys that get plastered and go out and hunt. I think we need more enforcement by Dept.'s of Wildlifes.

Hunting under the influence is plain stupid, not because they may hurt themselves, because they may end up hurting somebody innocent. Consuming alcohol before or during the hunt is unacceptable.

That being said, I have no problem with having a beer or two after the hunt with dinner.

It sounds like this group was out to party not to hunt.

"Depending on how much you drink the night before, you could be still legally intoxicated the next morning."

If you're still intoxicated the next morning ("legally" or not), that is just as stupid as drinking while you're hunting.

Having a little beer or wine with dinner, or a snort before bedtime, however, is neither stupid nor illegal. You may prefer not to and that is certainly your prerogative. You may even prefer to avoid a hunting camp where anyone drinks anything at all and that, too, is your prerogative. There is, however, such a thing as responsible consumption of alcohol and that can be done in hunting camp as well as anywhere else.

That is obviously NOT what the people in the story that started this thread were doing, though.
