I've only gone out to 400 yards with her,.. not many places in Michigan I can reach out that far with her. The longest target range in my area only hits the 300 yard mark.
But when I go out west I can reach out and "touch things" a we bit further out. |

I decided to post another of my projects,... still in the works but coming along real nicely.
This is my Carl Gustav's 6.5 X 55 Swiss Mauser that I'm making a Maple stock for. I started this last fall but had to put it down due to my hunting schedule and just receintly restarted the project. I'm hoping to have it completed by May of this year. |

Maple stocked .264 Win Mag, Teflon coated Stainless Steel Lilja 27 inch barrel, blueprinted Remington 700 action, glass bedded, free floated. Progress pictures in the rifle section under "my first custom", but she was born as a 700 ADL in 7mm rem mag.

Gotta' love that fiddle back !
Good lookin' rifle. :thumbsup1:
Dang it,... almost forgot,... mine's pretty close to being done now. It's taking a little longer in the finishing stage but it's looking really nice. I went with a Virgina Maple tone for the wood and I'm in the final stages of the shellacking and rubbing out . I'll post more pictures when I am done. |

I do love fiddlebacks! SO FESTIVE!
I've been really happy with Laurel Mountain Forge stain. I cut it 80% with denatured alcohol. Then there is two coats of Permalyn sealer, those pictures were taken with two brushed on coats of Permaly finish. I've got several more coats on her right now, and it is somewhat more subdued after 600 grit sanding, prior to the third coat. Subsequent coats are now prepped using 0000 steel wool and rubbing in by hand (with nitrile gloves). I'd post another pic if she wasn't wet from my last coat. |
