Ok ! But the registry will not be shut down, nor did any of the politicians say that. What were said were things like : The Gun Registry will no longer be a burden to the taxpayers : Not one more taxpayer dollars will be alloted to the gun registry. etc
This simply means that the day to day operation of The Registry will be on the gun owner by a registration fee, transaction fees, or what have you.
It will never be "scrapped" or disbanded in the general term. Listen very closely to every word out of the politicians mouths, a nice "play on words" if nothing else.

But it something to hope for
:thumbsup1:

It is possibly a pipe dream but if all the gun owners could get on the same page and unite their voting power, the government parties could not afford to ignore us. There is enough gun owners in Canada to hugely influence any election that takes place if we vote as one. The NRA has enormous power in the USA but there is not enough support up here for our groups such as NFA, CSSA, etc. to have a large enough impact on our government.

SASKIE:
Save yourself $ 65.00(or more) and get your new PAL before MAY 17, 2008, all fees waived to that date. Only costs you about $ 13.00 for a Mugshot at Walmart.
And your new PAL will expire five years from your birth date this year , so you get the full five year benefit :thumbsup1:

It will cost ya after may 17th/08. thats a given. I sent them an email today asking if I renew mine(doesn't expire to Nov//2011, will I get a new expiry date of Nov//2013??. I will let you know what they say.
When I got my PAL in 2006 it was in May or June and it was processed as if I did it in Oct/Nov, as I said , with an expiry of Nov, 2011.

I'd do it now Wonksy, what can you loose ?

I'd do it now Wonksy, what can you loose ? ....I renewed mine a couple of years ago when they sent out notices that some were good for another 5 years free i complained because they were excludeing half the gun owners where the other half had to go through all the paper work again I asked them how they knew that it was safe to renew the half they selected without a background check ,they couldn't answer me ! the reason they gave for doing it like that was they couldn't process them all in time . anyways at the time i had a pol only and decided to get the pal as it was the same cost , I got the new one in the mail and a few months later they sent me the money back ! go figure .I think they are in bigger trouble than there letting on ,and the cost is rising

This is the reply I got today from The registry:

"Yes, you can renew your firearms licence, please provide me with your full name, firearms licence number and your complete mailing address and a renewal package will be sent to you. Note, the form CAFC 979 can also be downloaded from our website at www.cfc-cafc.gc.ca.

If you have further questions, please contact our office at 1 800 731-4000.(end quote)

Since all it will cost is a photo, I will renew mine anyway, it will give me a couple of extra free years. I encourage ALL to do the same, you save, and The registry doesn't get your money(the most important)

:thumbsup1: :thumbsup1: :thumbsup1:

I renewed mine back in July. A buddy told me that I should start the process about 2 months in advance because if I was late(past my birthdate) I would be charged the full fee......I didn't have any problems. The new fee coming into effect this year is something I wasn't aware of.

To my knowledge there is no proposed "new" fee, but the present fee, $60.00 or $65, is waived until May 17th, ( for RENEWALS only) after that everyone applying for a license, whether a renewal or a new applicant, will pay it.
