Pretty wild. I was surfing CNN and came across this story. What would you be prepared to do if it happened to you?
I had sugery on my right foot last year and now I walk with a pretty good limp at times. Do you think an animal like this may think I'm an easier target for dinner because of it?
This just enforces my belief that bowhunters should be allowed to carry a handgun during archery seasons here.

Wow! Killed it with a pocket knife...

I'm not an expert on big cats, but I imagine that your limb probably doesn't help matters, Unit5a. Just take the pistol (its self defense), this is a free country isn't it?

It is illegal to carry a handgun during the archery only seasons here. I personally think it should be changed. I often walk back to camp in the dark and would feel a little better if I had something other than an arrow. Once back in camp I strap on some security before warming up the stove.
I hunt alone quite often and don't like the idea of fighting off a bear or lion with just a pocket knife.

I don't know what the rules are in CO on this, but I agree with you. You should be able to carry a firearm while archery hunting.

Hi Unit5a,

Thanks for sending in this item. I'm going to run it on "news row" on BGH's home page since it will be of interest to big game hunters.

Recently the CDOW released some information on how to reduce the risk of attack if you are in big cat country. It is worth a read:

http://www.dnr.state.co.us/new.....essid=2025

The important item to note is that if you are attacked, to fight back, unlike playing dead with bears.

I read that second article on canada.com. Sounds like the guy got pretty slashed up by the cat. Hope he makes a good recovery.

I still can't believe he took down the cat with just a pocket knife. Although I guess if you are in a fight for your life, adrenline and instinct boosts your ability to react fast.
