Hey yall, I just joined the forum and I had some news, My uncle lives in the north west mountains of nc. In a small town called lowgap. He has seen mountain lions 4 times since 2005. His house is in the shadows of the mountains and dense forests. 3 of his sightings happened while he was raccoon hunting near a section called sattle mountain. It was right at dusk. eatch time he said they were walking a game trail right long the creek bed. The area cougars live around his house are on the slopes of a small ridge of sattle mountain near a creek in lowgap. The 4 th sighting happened at about 7:30 on july. 7,2007. He was outside finishing up mowing his lawn and he claimed to see a large tan orange cat run right at the edge of his yard into the pasture of the farmer beside his house. The next day the farmer had a dead full grown cow! the only thing not eaten was its head! So if any of you have sightings of them in nc. or the southern us. Pleas tell all, thanks.

About 15 years ago, I was ground hog hunting in Rappahannock County, Virginia and saw a mountain lion (cougar). I called the state game commission and was told that there were no mountain lions in Virginia. A few years later I was informed by a game warden (who claimed he had first hand knowledge) that the federal government had imported and released mountain lions in the Shenadoah National Park to help control the deer population, but that they did not want it known to the public. This past summer (2007), a man I know spotted a mountain lion in Rappahannock County along the Fauquier border. I have heard of no other sightings in Virginia.
