I am planning my first trip to Canada (Nova Scotia) this Fall for a moose and bear hunt. Of course I'll be flying in to Halifax, so I'm looking for advice concerning airline rules when flying with rifles, ammos and hunting gear.

I already have the Non-Resident Firearms Declaration Form, and I know I need a passport, but I'm more concerned about the airline regulations. Anyone flown recently with firearms? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Where do you plan to do the moose hunting in Nova Scotia? The only public moose hunt is "by draw" and that hasn't taken place yet.

I'll be hunting with A-1 Canadian Outfitters (www.a1canadianoutfitters.com), I just finished building their site last week. They are also advertisers on this site. The owner of A-1 gets 10 moose tags per year.

Ok, I was partially mistaken about the moose hunt. The moose hunt is a "companion hunt" since I'm a non-resident. No biggie anyway, I'm a lot more interested in just going to Canada and stickin' a bear with my bow. :thumbsup1:

You did a nice job on the Website :thumbsup1: You'll enjoy Cheticamp , no doubt you will be hunting in The Red Cape area, which has the highest moose population on the island. No idea about the bears.
Cheticamp is about as windy an area that you will find in Atlantic Canada so pack accordingly, 50-60 mph winds is considered a light breeze :P :P :P

Just in case you still need some info here is the Canadian Firearms Center web site. Go to the visitors section and you can download a Firearms Declartion Form. You can aslso have it pre-approved by faxing it to the port of entry you are going to enter in Canada. Give them a credit card number , It's only 25.00 and they'll fax the approved form back to you. Good hunting.
