Has anyone here had any experience on these ranches?
I have enough points that I could probably draw but I don't know much about RFW. I'm not sure how to find out either.
Thanks in advance. |

| Alamosa, I haven't hunted those ranches before but I have hunted RFW and it's a good deal. If you're successful in drawing a tag, DOW will send you a packet, with maps, contact info, ranch rules, etc. Once you receive your RFW packet, I'd call the contact person and ask them any questions that you might have. Usually they won't allow camping on the property but many times there's public land close by. |

Thanks Hiker.
I appreciate the encouragement.
Probably not a lot of people have ever hunted these ranches, I think Purgatoire only gives 2 tags per year, but I think I have enough points to draw one of them.
I also wonder how these herds fared through the devastating winter last year. My guess would be that the bigger bucks survived OK.
Sometimes I wonder if there is a whole new set of rules, or what, for RFW. |

You can contact the ranch before you out in for the tag and usually they will answer all your questions if you tell them you have enough points to draw their ranch and plan on putting in for the tag.
Had a friend last year contact the ranches RFW he had enough points to draw and got a good idea of what to expect then picked the one he figured would be best and drew the tag.
He had a good hunt as he kinda knew what to expect before hand. |
