Well it could have been anyways....A guy that works for my dad ( near North Battleford Sask. ) told him that a guy shot a whitetail that scored 6 inches more than the Hanson buck - but here's the kicker - when the buck fell, it broke a tine, making the buck ineligible for the record book. The guy that works for my dad saw the buck at a Taxidermist's shop in Saskatoon and said it's amazing. I can't confirm the story yet, but if I do, I'll let you know.

During my recent excursion I was in Virginia and had the pleasure of visitting a Bass Pro Shops for the first time (WOW!) While wandering the aisles I suddenly found myself face-to-face with the Hanson buck. I had no idea he sold it to them.
Let me qualify what I am about to say with the unambiguous disclaimer that it (the Nason buck) was huge - racked deer; that being said I have to say I was disappointed - it got all it's scoring from being excessively (freakishly) long tines, not the mass or width that Sask bucks are known for.
A WR buck was poached last season near Kenora ON, (I'm digging through my magazine collection looking for the article that gave its official score after the drying period, but can't find it at the moment). Obviously because it was taken illegally the Hanson buck still retains its title...for now. |

  I guess so...and also predicting that it will be (legally) broken sooner rather than later.
Sask bucks get their scoring by having more mass than their eastern/southern cousins. I believe (don't know for sure) that it's a different sub-species of white tail (same idea as Canada Moose, Atlantic Moose, Shiras, Yukon etc). They're big bodied with very heavy-beamed antlers.
The Hanson buck had unbelievably long tines, but as far as mass and width although definitely in solid big boy territory, it wasn't what I expected. To give you some idea, the Ont record buck is making the rounds of local sporting/outdoor shows. It was here in Carp this past weekend. It had comparable width and substantially more mass than the Hanson buck.
That's why I believe it will be beaten sooner rather than later. Another buck coming close to the Hanson buck in length with typical SK mass will easily score higher. |

| I had the Hanson buck in my Taxidermy shop doing repairs on it, and have also mounted a replica of the world record buck, which hangs in the Biggar museum. And i can gurantee Milo has not sold the original to Bass Pro Shops. And about the mass of the deer, it's not that small, it is deceiving because of the length of its tines. I had it sitting beside 4 muledeer bucks that i mounted which all scored in the 200"s and it was shocking how big the Hanson Buck really is. |

| I'm glad to hear that the Hansen buck wasn't sold. I couldn't believe it myself, but the store clerk swore it was the original. No doubt that Milo's is monster, I'm just predicting that it wlll be beaten sooner rather than later. |

I don't know if it will be beaten that easily. Remember the Hanson buck was shot way back in November 1993 and nothing has come even remotely close since. There have been some that have gross scored pretty high since then but nothing that even comes close for a net typical score. The Jordan buck was the world record for a long time and it scored 206 1/8, a full 7 1/2 inches less than the Hanson buck, and there hasn't even been a buck that has beat that score yet. I am sure somebody will shoot a buck that scores between the Hanson buck and the Jordan buck before we ever see a monster that topples the World Record from SK. |
