2 weeks ago, Me and a few buddies were Elk hunting in this place called dry Creek here on the Umatilla Reservation, pretty close to the foothills, shoot our town Pendleton is about 20-25 miles away. Anyhow, I was on the side of a hill, my bud called me and said 3 calves, I was thinking why is he calling me and telling me, and I looked back at him gave him the thumbs up, and said go get em'!! I started walking, and he called me again, and he waved me to come down, so I did, reached him and said there are 3 cats (mother/2 cubs) right up ahead of us, and he was in a lil' panic so he headed back, I went to the top and heard a cow we wounded in a distance, my buds caught up to me, headed up the creek a bit, and decided the cow was cat food, so we headed back down.

This past weekend, we went to a place called Pearson Creek, not too far up from a town called PilotRock, about a couple hills over from Dry Creek. Picked up a Non Indian hunter, asked him what he was doing, said he was cougar hunting, (By himself ta' boot) Anyhow, he mentioned there were about 6 different cougars in that area, so thats about 9 cougars that we know of close the foothills and with in a good distance of a couple towns. Crazy. Now, we are going to hunt cougars since deer/elk season is over--ruining our game, cougars are year round for Tribal Members on the rez.

Cougars are surrounding Pendleton! lol. Seriously! They are coming pretty dang close into the flats. My inlaws horses were eaten' up by a cougar or cougars.

A couple of years ago, a friend was elk hunting up on the Blues. He accidently came up on a kill. The two cougars that were eating it came at him and he had to shoot them both. I saw the pics. There are a hell of a lot of cats in this state since they stopped hunting with dogs. I always have a cougar tag and if i see one I will shoot it on sight, or at least try.
