Rifle Rookie,
I have been using your tactics for whitetails for 45 years and can honestly say I have harvested about 125 whitetails. But I never thought to use that trick on moose...most of the time I spend it on the ground moving slowly through the woods moaning and groaning like a hot mama......Ha! don't forget to use unscented (no perfume) tampoons.Ha!
My hunting area is about 40 miles north of Ear Falls(WMU-3) in and around Little Bear Lake/Woman River....Been hunting that particular area for about 12 years....for 8 years I hunted black bear there and was very successful and now that you mentioned your way of hunting "Bullwinkle"...I should have thought of it myself.Numerous times while waiting on "Ole Smokey the Bear" to come through sitting in my stand a moose would tip on through......Do you know of any outfits that have mail order up there that carry that "Hot-Stuff" where I could order it through the mail?
I have been at this moose hunting for 3 years and this coming fall will be my 4th attempt.Last year I had 3 closing in on me while calling but as my luck would have it there was no light left for me to take a shot with the bow.I like to hunt when there is no moon.........This year I will be up there from Sept.27 through October 4th......You mentioned the spreads on your bulls...Ha! I would be content with 12 inches on a side.....I just need to break the ice.Again thank you....JohnE

IMHO-- After hunting Alaska for 25 yrs and Ontario 6, times the 49" Bull was more than average for Ontario- look in the books-(B&C)--Largest I have shot there was 48" and last years was 47".Yes ,AK does have more and bigger bulls- body and horns and I have shot many 50's -59" and one @ 61" but in me book any Moose is a nice trophy and a lot to carry!! My freezer doesn't store nor and my dinner table serve horns.

Try www.lebaron.ca its a bigger outfit and has 4 or 5 locations in the bigger cities Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto etc. If not there you can always try Bass Pro.
Ear Falls is about 14-15hrs from where I hunt so what works for me may not work for you. The land we hunt on was clear-cut timberland about 15 years ago so the Tamarak trees are just reaching the 10 foot mark. Our tree stands are 16 feet off the ground so you can see their heads coming from 500 yards away. Every one that I have seen, I just walked up to while dogging (scares the hell out of you when it sees you first)
Dont get caught with an "electronic moose caller". The athorities will take everything you've got!! Guns, Boat, cars etc.
When calling, i've been told by the veterines, only do it once an hour for about 1 minute. UNLESS you hear or see it. Moose can pin point a call and show-up feet from where you called from, and if its a bull still rutting, he'll be pissed.
Lastly, Ontario has re-introduced Elk into your region from Manatoba. I read an article of a hunter "accidentily" shooting one and went to the MNR (Ministry of Natural Resoarses) and pleaded his case. They didnt fine him and only made him pay the cost of bringing another one in from Manatoba to replenish the herd.....$11,500!!!!!! Perfect example of "make sure you know what your shooting at"!!

Rookie,
Thank you for the info........I have some very important info I'd like to share with you and it is from your Minister of Natural Resources(Ontario). The information I have to share with you is in e-mail form from MNR and rather than I sit here typing for an hour or so I am sending you my e-mail address...this way if you contact me direct I can just forward the e-mail to you.
I did find Lebaron.ca and they do have the product you spoke of I just have to figure out how I might want to order it from them. Will chat later .
