The end of deer season is drawing near. As the weather gets colder and colder on watch I am thinking more and more about standing on frozen lakes. Anyone else out there into ice fishing?

A neighbor used to take me ice fishing when I was a kid. An old 4'x4' canvas shelter with a small wood stove. Hot chocolate to drink and sandwiches toasted on the wood stove. Good times.

We might have 2" of gray ice on our lake. Sure been a warm November. I've been wanting to try for some lake trout & burbot. Unless we get some cold weather it looks like maybe January.

We have had some colder weather in MN this year. I'm going to poll some bait shops on ice conditions this week and see what we have. If the ice is thick enough, i'll likely go. A few tip-ups (stay-downs), a panfish rod, a beverage, a lunch and lawn chair. We are good to go. I have a little canvas portable that makes these outing comfortable. The kids like to go too. It sure is fun!!!

Hope to have safe ice here in CNY by X-mas. The weather has been cold but we are getting dumped on by the snow gods and that is not good for safe ice. I see on another wed site that a few hardey souls have been on the ice up in the mts of Northern NY?
My wife likes to go with but not as much as I do. My 2 dogs are my constant ice fishing companions. Wish I could teach them how to fish would mean more tip ups and jig sticks :thumbsup1:
