What if you bought a puppy that was promoted as a natural instinctive pointer. What would you expect of the dog to make a hunting dog out of it and what time frame would you concider reasonable to get there?

Don, ya know me, new as a pup's frist point, on all this "bird dog" stuff...but I would think a dpg that was promoted ""natural instinctive pointer"" would show interest and pause at anything with abird scent, well most anything. I would think it would take little training from handler to sharpen up point and such.

As far as time frame.... again not ever haveing trained a dog, Ild say maybe a good 12-18 months to get 'em to prime hunting form.
