I tried calling for the first time the other week. I have a combination howler, barker, and comes apart for use as a distress call. I was practicing with the barker, and sounded like a pup. About ten minutes into barking I heard something running through the brush. So I sat and watched intently thinking a coyote is going to jump into the open at any minute. All of a sudden this big old female Irish Setter comes running out and trots over to me with a big smile on her face. She stayed and visited for a couple of minutes then when running off again through the woods. After that I packed it up and headed back to the truck, chuckling along the way. Oh well. Will try again after deer season.

It's good luck that it wasn't some dog breed that looks more like a coyote.

Yeah, you're not kidding! Fifteen years ago a friend of mine put down one of three that came to his bleat call during ML season. The thing looked like a striped sheapard. A good 65 pounds too! So it's sometimes hard to judge anyway.
