| We have mostly Mallards here and Canada's but we also have canvasback, pintail, wood ducks, brant, snow geese, and a few more but these are ones that are most common. |

| same as you with the exception of the brant. We also have lots of gadwall, northern shovelers, widgeon, scaup, buffleheads and ringnecks. Blacks are hard to come by. So are canvasbacks and redheads. Oh yea, plenty of teal, green mostly but a few blues. |

| Mallards, blacks and ring-necks are common but teal are not rare either. We have lots of canada geese but the season opens about the same time they are packing up to head south. :cry: Wood ducks are common depending on the areas we set up. |

| I forgot, we have lots of black ducks too. They start dropping in at the end of December. |

Here (N. Idaho) ... at least around my neck of the woods ... mallards, occaisional teal. Geese: Canada ... some lesser and mostly larger. On the big rivers/waters there are a variety of other relatively strange (non-puddle) ducks. |

| I havent hunted near the New Jersey shore but I read an article in Field and Stream a few years ago about the 10 best places in the world to hunt ducks and the coast of NJ was near the top of the list. |

| I feel I should qualify my last post. I get entirely puddle ducks (almost all mallards), because I am hunting puddles, ... very small bodies of water (small creeks and ponds). Last year there was also a group of widgeon working the area, and I thought I spotted pintail. Right now it's all mallards, very occaisional teal - I assume essentially local birds. |

| I saw 3 ducks in the river on Saturday when I took my daughter to breakfast. They were cool looking. We watched them for a few minutes until they started getting nervous and we left but I don't know what kind they were and I have never seen them before. There is a publication put out by fish and game that shows all our waterfowl and what they look like sitting and also what they look like when they are flying. I'm going to see if I can find it online. |

| On down the line - waterfowl are amazingly beautiful creatures ... from the myriad of the various river/diving ducks, to the basic beauty of a drake mallard ... incredible! |

| OK, I found those ducks in the identification guide that I posted in the other thread. They were Gadwalls. I never saw one before. |

| On rare occasion we get a few Gadwall ... and about equally rare, Shoveler. |

| We're absolutley overrun with wooducks. We float/jump shoot ducks b/c of limited flyway acess since I'm in far eastern alabama. We get the occassional mallard on the creek but usually wood ducks.This is only the second season that I've been waterfowling and I have taken more wood ducks than mallards. I'm trying to find some big water to try to hunt mallards. |
