I have just gotten into coyote hunting and have set up my .270 with a 6-18X50 simmons pro50 scope. It works fine but I was wondering how much a difference a top end scope like a leopold or burris would make.

I use a Leupold VX-III 3.5-10 x 50 on my Browning A-Bolt .270 . I love it shoots great. My dad has a Swarovski on his A-Bolt; it can pickup a few more minutes of light which in some cases makes all the difference, but in my position at the time I couldn't justify spending 2-3 times the cost of the rifle on my scope.

On my yote hammer i use a bushnell banner 4-12X. It's a cheapie but it shoots fine and a good match for my 7400. Really the only difference between scopes is how well the glass is ground, the quality and design of the elevation and horizontal mech to move the cross hair lens and the manufacturers name. I think the third being the biggest reason for scope price....

Most cheapie scopes now a days are fully multi coated.

i like to use my Tasco 2.5x10... it is a great scope and has great under low light situations late in the day. but my question to you is, what are you doing using a .270 for yotes? thats huge. i think you might want to look into a smaller caliber that is faster and does less damage. just my suggestion.

The higher power the better with predators. You could get some long shots and with the more popular .223, 25-06, and .243 you can shoot a long ways.

I use a rem 700 in .220 swift with a Leupold Vari-x iii 3.5-10x40. It is a sweet rifle for coyotes.

Can anyone beat my coyote tool for under a grand $$$ ? A stainless Remington VSSF (Varmint Stainless Synthetic Fluted) in .25-06 Rem with a 6-18 Redfield and a harris bipod. I wish I had some pictures to share of the red mist.

I just got a rifle for coyote's last year, 700 ADL Remington in 243 win, doesn't shoot very good. Anyway,I put a 3 x 9 Nikon on it. It work's farther than I ought to be shooting.

I have a 6-24 tasco target/varmint. Never been off, great groups, sweeet price. I usually call with it on low power because if one shows up close all of the sudden, it may be hard to take a quick shot on 24 power. I believe the price you pay is for how pretty you want that critter to look through your scope, but when the smoke clears it all looks the same dead on the earth, huh? Tasco may not be the best brand, but your nikon should do all you want. I wouldn't swap for Leupold or Burris, wast of money if you ask me.

270wcf model 700 Classic w/a Burris 3x9x40. The clarity on the Burris in my experience is great and the 270 is definatley overkill on coyotes but damn its fun!!:D I know the pic is just a coyote, but kinda like catching a fish on the first fly you ever tied, this is the first one Ive ever called in. :)

When I was coyote hunting in Nevada. I used a 223, a 22-250, or a 243.
More often than not the wind would pick up and make it very difficult to hit at any lengthy ranges. So, on one occasion I took my 270 wcf with 130's and had better hits at the extended ranges.
Since, I have used the 270, exclusively, as an extended range predatore round. Actually, it's the only round I use. Only, I have chosen to go with the faster 270 wsm and a high BC bullet to put the odds a bit more in my favor. Using a bullet that is 1.5 to 2.5 times the weight of the 243's and 22's at comparable velocities.
There isn't much on a coyote to stop a heavy jacketed big game bullet. So, they react more like a FMJ and make great hide savers.
It does remove a lot of the doubt when the wind picks up. Which is just about every outing.
