| seems as if no one is willing to let go info on a good area to scout in n.c. for black bear.theyre afraid someone else will get one.id like to get my first bear but dont know any areas to scout.any help is appreciated. |

| I know exactly what you mean. Some of those North Carolina bears are huge. It's even tough to find an outfitter who does bear hunts in NC. I met a guy who owned a machine shop in north eastern NC. He was telling me that there are bears everywhere, and the locals don't get excited at all about hunting them. He said that bear hunting is so easy, that a blind man could kill a nice bear. I never heard back from the guy, so I lost total contact with him. If you find a lead on connecting with a good NC bear hunt, I would appreciate you passing along any information that you find out. I promise not to hunt any of your "honey holes". Take care.......Brian |

| texas seems a long way to come for a bear,but if i hear anything ill pass it along.maybe we can hook up a hunt here. im thinking of going to maine in sept for a bear this year. |

If you are looking for public lands to hunt bears in NC get a copy of the Game Lands book (New one should be coming out next month). In that book you can look to see what G.L's have huntable bears. Mountains will be your best bet. The big bruins are on the coast but access is a problem. Also check out some of the local hunting mags many will do stories about G.L.'s and provide a map for a starting point. Look back at any old issues from Aug-Nov to see any articles they may have. | hello, just joined this forum and as i was looking around i saw your post on looking for hunting areas in nc for bear. It is hard to get info because of the polotics and lack of easily accessable areas to hunt but if your still interested in finding a area among the g/l's i can certainly point you in the right areas to scout for them. But be warned most of the game lands with good areas are quickly overrun with dog hunters during the first season. |

not sure what areas you are looking but as far as the coast is concerned croatan forest has some nice bears and is accessable off of u.s.hwy 70 between new bern and havelock, alot of it is pocosin land and is not scoutable, but they do have alot of nice hardwood swamps in areas. there is not alot of corn fields in the area so i would suggest scouting this paticular area in late sept-mid oct. there are some private clubs that border this land but it is very well posted between the gov. and private land. you might want to get a map of this area to help with the fairly large road system also. i think they sell a detailed map at the ranger station on us 70 west for a couple of bucks. let me know if this is any help or if there are others areas you had in mind i may be able to assist you with. |
