Going on my first bear hunt in less than two weeks. It will be with Jim Shockey in Sask. over bait with a rifle. Any words of wisdom for this hunt. Prcaticed with my 30-06.
Anything to remember, any thoughts on scents?
Thanks

| What time of year are you going? The only thing I would mention is the weather. Earlier in the bear season (opening to mid Sep) shouldn't be too bad, but anytime after 10 Sep or so the weather can turn nasty quick. Our falls are usually very short. |

| Buzz, you are one lucky guy to be able to hunt with Jim Shockey. He is my all time hunting hero. As far as what you need... a good set of ears! Listen to what Jim tells you. You are hunting with the best! |

Thanks for the info. I am hunting in spring.
I feel a little goofy when I was told to bring an extra large set of white sweats to wear over my camo. |

I forgot about the spring hunt.
Did he say that the sweats had to be white? Must still be snow where you'll be hunting.
Here's a quote from Sask hunting regs:
"It is a violation to hunt big game in a designated rifle season, or accompany a hunter, without wearing a complete outer suit of scarlet, bright yellow, blaze orange or white, or any combination of these colors. You must wear head gear of any of these colors except white."
I chuckle when I see photos in hunting mags of people "rifle hunting" in Sask with camo. Basically posing for the "action shot" |

| I know about the camo laws. I guess I will look kinda silly in all white sitting in a tree stand. |

| My only advice is to use a heavy premium bullet like the Nosler partition, Swift, or Bear Claw. |
