Suppose to have heave T-Storms in the afternoon, hope they're gone before I get out. Wish I could go in the morning.

Well I missed the rain yesterday, but had a communication problem with my hunting buddy. I was hunting a place new to us and we had put up stands last week. My buddy had a few touchups to do on his stand, so when I called to tell him I was heading down there he wanted to go along. I was thinking he was coming along to do a few touchups and then hunt afterwards with me. He didn't realize I was planning on hunting and I didn't realize he had more than a few touchups. So after all the commotion of the touchups I decided I was already there I would go ahead and set in stand. I got in stand at about 6 pm, so I really wasn't planning on much and that's about what I saw. Turkeys were flying to roost about 6:15 and a deer was giving off warning blows in the timber for about 30 min. The deer couldn't smell me because of the wind and it couldn't see me because of the timber so I figured it must be a coyote. Sure enough coyote comes out and comes to within 20 yds. As soon as I started to draw he bolted. Very keen senses. Had about 10 min. of shooting light left and I wasn't feeling like something was going to come out I descended earlier than I normally would and sure enough half way down my ladder stand a doe catches me from about 30 yds off.
All in all it was great to get out and go through the motions.

I'm gonna go with a hunting buddy to setup a stand tomorrow morning! I got a little bit more practicing to do with my bow, but I feel like I'll be ready come later this week. I can't wait!!!!

P.S.Anyone know of any land available to hunt in Unit 19 for the early Firearms season? I turn 21 the day it opens, but the land I am bowhunting on(which has a beautiful buck on it), is just right outside unit 19 border. So if anyone needs a hunting partner, or knows someone who needs a doe or two knocked off, let me know!!!

I have a spot in 19, but it is bow only. The landowner is convinced she got lyme disease from the ticks which were carried around on the deer. So the deer have a target on them on this ~ 120 acres. On there are alot of them

Mmmmm, bow only? I wouldn't mind hunting a different spot if you are offering :P

I have a pretty nice schedule for the remainder of this year--Class on tues/thurs from 2-8, but besides that I am open to hunt, hunt and hunt!!!

RR,

That is a nice little setup you have in unit 19. I wish you luck in helping out that poor lady in clearing the woods of those bad tick packing deer. I will throw in my help in the extended bow season in January. For I have not had any luck in finding a spot within unit 19 myself.

I'll find out from here how many people she has to hunt the place. So far I know of me and a couple of my buddies. She's building a house on the property and the builder has a couple guys hunting also. She has certain rules and need to sign some papers to hunt the place. She was looking to have 7-8 people there so I'll check with her and let you guys know if I can get you sneaked in.
It is closer for me to go there than to head up to my main hunting area, so when I need to make a quick trip and during the extended season I'm going to head down there. Pretty much going to fill the tags with whatever comes by just to help her out :D

Well I got to sit up in a tree stand for the first time today. Wheeewwww was it hot out there. I soaked through two shirts climbing up and down that tree then carrying the climber out of the woods up a hill. Got a really sweet spot on a trail with great huge rubs 25-35 yards away. It is also kinda nice cause there is a barb-wire fence in the way so they can't be sprinting through, they gotta stop for me ::neener: ::neener:

Going out tomorrow night for my first time ever. I got a doe tag for archery since I would rather save my buck tag for the rifle season since this is my first year shooting my bow and I probably won't be able to pull it back when I have one walk by me.

Good Luck :thumbsup1:

I went out again last Sun. night and saw a nice buck at the end of the field I was on right next to one of my other stands :](*,)
Went out again Mon. night on the property in unit 19 and had a doe and her two young ones come by. I got her stopped, but in a tight shooting lane and I grazed a branch and missed. Then she came back out at 40 yds and tried again, but wouldn't you know right at the last second she ducked the arrow. Oh well, that's huntin'
