I just picked up my .410. The pups and I have been kicking up Dusky's all summer. Pretty sure we can find some Ruffeds and Hun. Partridge in/near the same areas.

Good stuff boys, I think I am going to buy a new 12 gauge this year too. I'm thinking of buying an optima full camo but we'll see how it goes. Good luck on your hunts.

I've got 7 Duskys (Blue Grouse) so far this season. The .410 makes it tough :) . I pass up more shots than I take. I've downright missed 4 so far this season. Had a real active morning this morning. Dog flushed 6, I took 1 shot and missed. Had 2 flush below us while the dog was working up high. I had 1 flush directly behind me while I was setting up for a shot ahead of me. Had 1 flush beside me while I was jumping over a creek  . YEE HAW!

I've been doing great this year I went out about 6 times and out of the 6 got my limit 5 times which is 5 birds here (ruffed or spruce grouse) mostly ruffys except last weekend. I decided to bring the crossbow for a hoot, bad idea I ended up missing about 4 birds and seeing ten and loosing 7 bolts, bush is still way to thick for birdin with a bow. Plus I was using eastman broadheads. I guess I had a little too much faith in how good my shot with a bow is.

Loosing bolts could get expensive. How's the pup doing?
Dog flushed 5 today, I had a chance at 2 and missed. These blues are fast and hang in tough cover. :

He's doing great besides the bitting the kids don't like it and Im getting sick of hearing them yell so its muzzle time for him but hes getting really big. Amazing dog though really really smart and learning quick already bringing birds to the truck for me. I also have alot of fun hunting woodcock they must be like your blue grouse really quick and always in thick cover. Good luck on your hunts man, keep me posted.

Puppies and biting. It's tough to break them.
That's very cool that he's retrieving so well already.

I think woodcock are tougher. I hunted them back east. The blues seem to hold tighter than ruffeds. They will flush in tight cover and fly into tighter cover.

It's really the single shot .410 that is tough. Went out with the .12g. one day. First covey the dog flushed 5 hit, 3. 1-2-3, just like that. The other 2 flew down hill and out of range real quick.

We went out last Thurs. He flushed 2 singles. Hit them both. It was flurrying and 10 min. later it was dumping. The dog was running every which direction but no more birds.

Birds are gonna have to wait a little while. Deer, bear and elk are open. I have 2 deer tags, 1 bear and a cow elk tag. Cow elk opens Oct. 22nd.

Good luck with the pup. Keep up the good work.

Happy Hunting, Chris
