| Alaskas moose seasons open on various dates depending on which GMU your hunting but in a lot of road accessible areas the season is open now. Some would have you believe the only way to take a moose is hire a guide fly hundreds of miles, and while this does up the odds by a wide margin hunting moose is possible and if one adds up the cost one guided hunt [while more productive] could be spread over several years of DIY hunts allowing you more time to enjoy one of the most beautiful places on earth & enjoy hunting & fishing in a place much different than home.I live along the road system and because of injuries restrict the areas I hunt to places I can kill a moose that I can pack without loosing any meat, last night while scouting I saw 10 Dall sheep 1 black bear,8 cow moose 4 calves 3 bulls [none legal but one bull and 2 cows less than50 ft ] dozens of ducks several swans & 1 eagle.Tonight I saw even more sheep including 1 ram ,1 mountain goat,2 black bears 5 cow moose 3 calves and 1 bull, all this within 5 or 6 mi of my house.Still no meat in the freezer but it aint a bad way to spend a few days in Aug. |
