All right! I was up there a year ago May and nothing had much in the way of antler's. Got a bunch of bald moose and caribou. Where are you up there?

I'm about 25 miles SE of Fairbanks. There are a lot of moose around here, and on any given evening we could hop on the 4-wheelers and I could generally find you at least one. In fact, I took the photo below off my back porch last September after the season closed. They're all over the neighborhood in the spring because the underground steam pipes warm the soil up enough to produce green grass well before anywhere else. They're all over the place later in the fall, too. I suspect it might have something to do with stripping trees -- they love willows like the one I have in the back. I've learned to grab a camera every time I hear a child scream, because that generally means there's a moose walking through the neighborhood.

The problem as you say is finding nice horns. I don't have a problem finding cows and young bulls, but if you want a nice rack you've gotta work for it. From the looks of things, the one in the previous post is going to have 3 brow tines on one side and 4 on the other, and that suggests there's a good chance he'll go more than 50 inches.

LOL at the wolf pic great pics ex looks like you have the same thing around your house as me except they quit walking into town now you actually have to drive to see them. This has been an exceptional year for seeing moose Ive seen atleast 10 this year a couple small bulls but some great looking cows and calfs around lately.I seen 3 yesterday alone it was great seeing them all over the place I think its mostly to do with the blackflies and horseflys this year they are insane up in my neck of the woods oh yea the misquitoes too pushing them into openings and onto roads buts mostly seeing alot swimming.

Yeah, the wolf was fun. There were five of them in the pack, and this guy was in front. He hit that bush and 2-3 of the others hit the same spot as they came by. Life in the jungle, I guess -- always somebody else itching to take your spot.

As far as the moose go, we really don't have a fly problem around here. In fact, they're downright rare. The mosquitos can be fierce, but I don't know how much moose care about them. It's tough to think an animal that big could be bothered by something so small. No matter how many moose I see, I'm always amazed a how big they can be. I almost hit one on the ATV at around 25 mph last summer -- thing exploded out of the brush on my right and all I saw in front of my handlebars was brown hair. :o That was a little unnerving.

LOL I can just imagine what you were thinkin was it a bull or a cow and were they scared by the bike or was it just curious of the sound do you know? What happened after that did the moose just walk away or check you out for awhile.Up here they are curious about everything the logging ops up here talk about moose roaming out in the middle of the day to see whats going on.

It was a cow. Didn't get much time to look, because I was headed north and she was moving west. I wasn't kidding when I said I saw hair -- she crossed about two feet in front of my front rack at a full gallop and I distinctly remember going from watching the trail to suddenly seeing the details of individual hairs just ahead of her haunches. I don't know how I missed her, but she didn't even hesitate. By the time I grabbed the brakes she was just a bunch of hooves kicking up dirt on my left side and was gone in seconds. Thankfully it was on a slower stretch of trail - a minute or so before I was doing about 40. I don't know which would've been worse -- flying over the handlebars into her, or having her stomp whatever life I had left in me afterward.

Sorry I didn't get a picture, but there was a really big bull lying next to the road in Delta this past weekend...It is that time of the year!!!
