Finally...I am the proud new owner of a beautiful .308 BLR...and it's purrrrrrdy.
Now you can all breathe a sigh of relief that I won't be whining about it anymore. I need a different gun case (the one I have now gets fuzzy crap all over it - especially the checking). But that's small stuff.

| Great to hear Saskie. You need to get the the range now and give that baby a good workout. Let us know how it shoots. |

I was out today down in your neck of the woods at Chester Grant range and fired 40rds.
The rifle shoots fine...unfortunately the same can't be said about me - LOL. I think I need new glasses or something...I just wasn't able to focus through the peep sights on the sight picture and the groupings showed it.
The only complaint I have about the rifle that wasn't my fault was I found the trigger very stiff - but that's fixable.
I was suprised by it's kick - but it is a VERY lightweight rifle. It was tolerable it just suprised me the first time I fired it.
All in all - not a bad day.

| Yeah, that range is about 1km from my house and is where I do all my shooting. I haven't been out in a month or so because I have been very busy with this job change-over. Next time you come down, let me know. I'll join you for a session. |

After that last outing I'm not sure I want any witnesses. My girlfriends brother came with me this time. He doesn't hunt and knows nothing about rifles/shooting at all. He was all impressed that I hit the target.
I'm going to give the open sights one more try and if I have the same problem I'll have to get a scope. I had my eyes checked in Dec and they said they were fine.
I might be out again Friday, depending what our schedule is like. If you hear lots of shooting followed by lots of cussing - that's me. |

I'll be listening but don't get too concerned. I find that range hard to shoot at as well. The benches are at funny heights and I am never comfortable. I usually put the Harris on if I go there so I can adjust the height by myself. So, are you going to make a shooter out of your "bro-in-law" or isn't he interested? |

| Well....maybe. He's more of a sports kind of guy. He'll spend as much time and effort researching and picking a hockey pool as we do scouting for deer. |

| I know the type you are talking about. I like sports of all types but I am obsessed with hunting and shooting. To each his own. |

I must confess I broke down today and bought a scope. After talking with the admittedly few people I know who hunt/shoot the general concensus was that my inability to focus was fairly common with people who wear glasses. That was a good enough excuse for me.
I got a Bushnell 3-9x40 Banner series. I like it.Wish I could try it out but I doubt I'll get the chance as I'm sailing again Sunday. Crap. I really like that it's focusable - that will definitely "clear things up".
Of course now I'm all out of excuses...LOL
Also saw a bolt action 30-30 at the gunsmiths. I'd heard of them but this was the first one I've seen. Neat.

Where did you purchase your rifle and/or scope? I'm always looking for other shops that are in the sport.
BTW, I think getting the scope was a good decision. I've hunted here both ways and, while both have their place, the scope has helped me tag deer that I wouldn't have got without. |

I bought the rifle at Hnatiuk's Hunting & Fishing in Lantz. They've just started up so their "off-the-shelf" selection is limited but they're slowly building it up - and they can order just about anything (like my BLR). They have a lot of Remingtons (various models) mostly in 30-06 and 270, and a handful of .22 and shotguns. They also have archery supplies, hunting accessories (calls etc) and do taxidermy.
The scope was from JD Shooting in Prospect Bay. He has a larger selection and variety of rifles/shotguns (new and used - including the bolt action 30-30), archery equipment and blackpowder supplies. He's also a gunsmith.
I'd say the main difference between the two shops is that Hnatiuks is more of a "hunting" shop that sells some basic shooting equipment and JD's is a "shooting" supplier that sells some basic hunting equipment.
Both were very friendly and helpful and I'd reccomend them, remembering their bias (go to JD for shooting advice and Hnatiuk's for hunting advice). |

| I've looked for JD's various times. How do you get to the shop? Is it in his house? By looking at the address I think it is close to exhibition park. Am I right? |
