Hey everyone,
I'm just making conversation, I am just curious how many people antelope hunt and where?
I am from Nebraska, I hunt the Cherry unit cause that's where I am from, my grandfather owns land that is good antelope country and have had good luck every year I go,
I'ts just hard to get a permit every year cause you have to get lucky and draw for a permit! that always sucks cause whatever year I don't get a permit, I always see the big one!
but one thing is for sure, he will always be around somewhere the next season! That's what keeps me comming back for more whenever I can. |

I hunted antelope a few years back in northwest Colorado.
I have not hunted them in recent years, the tags are difficult to draw here as well. They are enjoyable to watch when the occasion arises. Definitely speedy.
In what part of the state is the Cherry unit? Western? |

| I'm from Wyoming and hunt an area west of Midwest, WY. It's a 45 minute drive from Casper and it's convenient. I could hunt other places that have bigger bucks but I don't have the time. In my area a 15" buck is pretty good most years and it's a fun area to hunt. The terrain is conducive to stalking and it's public ground. |

| My family hunts in south eastern Montana its a long way from the house, but great hunting. Friends of ours has a ranch over there ( its their summer place, they snowbird) And we have keys to the house  Lots of antelope. And so far we have always drawn our 2 to 3 tags for the year, time will tell for this year. |

The Cherry Unit is in north central Nebraska.
How big are the goats that you guys have killed?
My biggest one is a 15 incher, which in Nebraska is pretty big. he scored 76 6/8, his prongs were 6in and his bases were 6in. he looks nice on the wall. He is the only one that made state citation, I have shot a couple other nice ones though.
I just like being out there with them!!! |

Only antelope hunting I have done has been antlerless. Hope to do some hunting for the male variety sometime though...
Sounds like you tagged a decent on Deerslayer. Guess we'll have to call you "Lopeslayer".

| Antlerless antelope!?! I thought ALL antelope had horns, just that the males had larger/thicker ones. |

| I see antelope every day. Females are antlerless, however on occasion you will find one with antlers, but that is not typical. |

| Learn something new every day. Don't know where I got the idea that female pronghorn also had antlers, but obviously I was mistaken. |

| In the Majority of Western states,Antelope hunts are either wrote up as "BUCK" or "DOE".Antlerless describes Deer and Elk hunts for the Female of the Species. In Nevada,N.D.O.W.has hunts for Antelope with HORNS,"Longer" than the Ears and for Antelope with HORNS,"Shorter"than the Ears. But if WE "ALL" think about it,Antelope have "HORNS"not Antlers,RIGHT??? Good Luck--- |

Antlerless was a bad choice of words. Should have just said female or doe.
The females can have horns but they are not big and usually just amount to nubs.
Some lopes have antlers, don't forget the jackalope family.

Hey it was great hearing from you all!!
I have seen doe antelope with small bumps and that's all they amount to.
All I know is I can't wait till October, so I can use the ol' 2506 to slay a goat!
Happy Hunting! |
