I finally made my mind up and I want to shoot IPSC handgun. I bought a handgun and enrolled in the black badge course and should be shooting IPSC in a couple of months. I can't get enough of handgun shooting but the wife is going to kill me if I don't slow down a bit. I am shooting 200 rounds every other night and still want more but it is starting to add up $$$$ After I get a couple thousand empty brass casings I'll start reloading but until then I'm having a blast. :D

I don't know much about IPSC competitions. Do they start on a local level then work up to national & international levels?

What caliber of handgun do you shoot?

Cool, I hope you have fun and do well at the same time.
A friend of mine has been trying to get me into competitive handgun for years at the local range, but even with re-loading it just costs too much for me.
I've watched a few times, and have even got to try out some of those "race guns" all tricked out a few times. Fun!

I'm going to be shooting standard division with a .40 s&w. We have a local chapter that competes province wide and also national and international events. I'll stick to Nova Scotia for now but after I get faster at it I'll branch out. I am approaching this like I do other past-times. I am here to have fun first and to do my best what ever it may be. I'm just enjoying the range time now. I have essentially replace rifle competitions with this because the long-range range is a long way for me to go and it became a chore to practice. I still shoot rifle at my local range each week.

What type of handgun(s) did you select for your shooting?

The fastest configurations I've seen seem to be heavy 1911's in 9mm.

You know me too well Bit. I have a turret press now but I am hunting for a true progressive press as we speak. I was going to try to make due with the turret press but I am shooting about 500-1000 rounds a week and I know Iwill need the progressive press. I am looking at the Dillion 650. As for the gun, I went for a standard division race gun in .40 s&w and 6 extra mags. I needed atleast .40 cal (10mm)to make major scoring in standard division but you are right about 9mm. It dominates the production division and the open division because of less recoil. I'll attach a pic of the handgun I bought.

Interesting a Tanfoolio, I've seen a few of their 1911 variants around here, but not this model. Your gun looks like a variation of a P210.

It comes into the USA as an EAA Elite Custom which is the same gun but the Tanfoglio company uses them for the american imports. It shoots the 40 sw with very little recoil so shot follow-up is quick. The grip is very large so I'm changing the wooden grip for aluminum grips.

BTW, I did break down and buy the progressive press. I bought a Dillion XL650 and loving it. Very happy with my decision! :thumbsup1: :D

Skateboard tape on the grips help a bunch. I put it on my duty gun as well. Glad your enjoying yourself.

I will be using stateboard tape on the alum. grips and also on the slide for quicker cycling. The present grips(wooden) have excellent grip just too wide for my hands.

Good point on the EAA, although in the past they have been imported under the Tanfoglio name, but it has been some years.
