My friend Dave Gullo shooting at Raton, New Mexico at the Whittington Center with a Borchardt .45/100 Black Powder Cartridge Rifle! Distance was 1125 yards and that black plate on the buffalo is about 15" diameter! Tell ME....blackpowder isn't accurate!!

You won't regret it!
Dave's first shot DID NOT hit the black plate; rather it's on the buffalo up at the 1 o/clock position about 12" off the plate but.....he put the next 3 rounds in the black!! :lol: :lol: This was filmed by Ripley's Believe it or Not when done. Not the longest shot ever made but....the longest shot ever attempted on film with a BPCR!! |

I remember going to the range with Dad as a kid. He shot at the local big bore club, for which the control calibre was .308 Winchester (known as the 7.62 Rimless Nato round here). Lying prone on mounds ranged from 100 yds to 1000 yds, they used military full metal jacket ammo and "Peep" aperture sights similar to those Dave uses in the video. Flags at every mound showed wind activity.
The target arrangement was a counterweighted cable system which allowed the blokes manning the "pits" to raise and lower the target from behind a big mound. The men would lower the target after a shot, remove the spotter disc from the shot before and insert it into the most recent hole, paste either a black or white patch over the last hole, depending on where the hole was, and push the target up ready for ol' mate's next shot.
As the shooters rotated through Pit Duty, I used to accompany and help Dad when it was his turn. The sound of the shot coming over my head is indescribable, but I'll give it a whirl.
The first thing you hear is the mach-plus projectile whipping over the top and slapping into the butts - about thirty metres behind the targets - with a backwards whipcracking sound if you can imagine that. Then the sound of the bullet traveling down the range from the shooting mound with a sort of "WAW" effect as it passed over each mound - anything up to nine of them.
I used to love that sound. I haven't been at the receiving end of a shot for about 28 years now, but that sound will stay with me until I die. |

was the area he shot in flat? if it was it still doesnt matter that is one heck of a shot :D
