Welcome to the site.
Kangaroo's huh? Boy that's a new one on me. I haven't a clue! Are you wanting the dog to find them and flush them out or what? |

| Brendon, put him in the field and let him sniff around awhile. Do you know anyone else that has dogs to see if he will follow them? I'm new to this stuff too and what I am doing now is just getting my pup out in the field and letting him sniff around and do his own thing(inside a large fenced in area). I'm just trying to let him build his own confidence so that he will learn to move off on his own. He goes out only so far and then comes back to see if I'm still there. Then he goes out further and longer before he comes back to "check on me"....just trying to build his confidence to let him know that I won't leave him there. In may I will take him to a place that we can run bear and I will see if he follows the other dogs and get used to the smell of bears since that is what I want him to hunt (also getting another hound while I'm there). He has meet a few bears before but they were all dead. I try to keep him off the game that I don't want him to run and I really cheer him on when we get near the bears. I am brand new at this too so if anyone has any sugestions for me.....they will be apreciated. |

That is a start. Another is to start training them with scents of the game your after. Start making scent trails and hide a few pelts with scents on them until you think they are ready to go on live hunts.
You can find some good predator scents if that is what your after at

The best training for young dogs is to have them start hunting with those older more successful dogs and hold them back until they can`t take it any longer. |

Hi Don,
Thanks....I no longer have any but did own a couple redbones and a english setter for birds. I no longer had time for them and the kids are now all grown. It was not fair to the dogs so I sold them. Mostly hunt deer now. |

| Why use a dog? A truck or van with side door and BIG lights and a 22 mag should do it. |
