I Washington there are NO body gripping traps allowed...legholds, snares, or conibars...it make it tough to trap. We are allowed to live trap. It's practically impossible because of the weight of the traps and the animals don't readily walk into them.
A few years ago the anti's ran a series of TV ads showing coyotes chewing off thier legs and bears being torn apart by hounds. Then they introduced legislation and it passed easily. Now we can't hound hunt for cats or bears and we can't trap. |

| Wa coyotehunter , That must suck big time . Is there an over population of animals or lots of diseases among the animals ? I would think that if there was no trapping to keep the # down there should be an abundance of critters . |

Mr Nail,
I would love to talk trapping with you. It's one of my favorite outdoor pursuits. I wish you would pull the pic of the coyote off of the first page of this thread.
I know that the yote died quickly and I consider it one of the most humane ways of dispatching them but it sure doesn't look good. You can count on someone copying that and using it in a way that you wouldn't want (against trapping).
I caught my first black rat this season! |

| I enjoyed seeing the pictures and really don't see any difference between them and the pictures of other dead animals that others have posted. |

| I do understand that the anties will use them as stepping stones in their battle to stop trapping . Pretty bad we can't enjoy our B G H .site to the fullest with freedom of pics and talks without some body preying on discussions and material for their own use . I guess it's like the old saying . Give ya enough roap and you'll hang yourself . That's what the anties are probbably wating for gathering all the info and pics that we post ourselves . We'll have to keep things to our selves in a PM .I 'll send some pics to guys or gals that want to chat on this thread and I am farmilliar with . I'll ask first if anybody wants to see them and only farmillar faces will recieve them . |

| BGH does not have a problem with trapping photos. However hunter777 has a point, we do not want to give antis any more fuel for their propaganda. Exchanging photos via PM is a good idea. :thumbsup1: |

I didn't mean for you to pull all your pics. I thought they were great. Just the one with the choked out coyote. It was a perfect kill and I commend you on it. I know how fast a coyote will dispach itself in a snare but most people that see that pic would think the animal suffered before it died. I know that the coyote fights it so hard that they pass out in a matter of seconds and die very quickly. I also know that dogs won't fight a snare and will be sitting there waiting for you to let it out when you arrive (as long as there is no kill spring on it) but I think some people might see that picture and worry that it could have been their dog.
I want to ad that we can snare with full entanglement too and that our state was accused by the game commision of a neighboring state of accidentaly killing "several dogs" with snares, when they were talking about legalizing snares in their own state. Our trappers association heard this and disagreed with that statement and then researched it by contacting every single police dept and law enforcement agency in the state to ask if they had any record of a domestic dog being killed in a snare......NOT ONE SINGLE DOG WAS REPORTED KILLED IN A SNARE anywhere in any records. If your trappers association could use this info and any other info to bolster the advancement of trapping I can provide you with links to tons of information and can put you in contact with the guy that researched these accusations himself.
I wish you didn't pull all the pics. |

| Hunter777. The pics were all removed for me . There have been a few dog killed in snares in Nova Scotia . That being the fault of the pet owners not the trapper . The law here states . No domestic animal shall run at large in any game habitat . I have seen many dogs running in the woods of Nova Scotia and seen lots of pics where they have killed deer . Dogs don't kill deer for food they do it for fun . To prevent dogs from being caught in traps or snares the D N R should be enforcing these laws . I hear of the dogs being caught but never the owner charged for allowing their pet to run at large . Any one whoe's dog gets caught in a trap or snare should be charged for letting the pet run loose and also for interferring with a legal activity . It is also illeagle to touch any legally set trap or snare . When the dog gets caught then the snare is no longer useable . I would love to see a dog in a snare . I have my camera around my neck at all times in the bush . I certainly would want the laws enforced on that one . People get charged for abusing their animals .And so the should , but they never get charged for their pet breaking the law This should be changed .Their even crying about the safety of kids now . Do you suppose they let their kids run at large to ? MAN !!! , there is a lot of people that have to wake up here .The season here for killing traps and snares is from the 1 st day of November to the last day of March . . The people know that pets get caught well they should use common sence and Know when the season is open to contain their pets . " DUMB PEOPLE " |

I don't see the problem with posting those pics. This is a hunting site and we do things the antis don't like... and will continue to do those things! I think by self-censoring our own forums we have let the antis win a victory and that is not right in my books. They are going to warp what we say, do, and post no matter how much we hide it. We shouldn't have to hide something we love so much. They are not hiding their views and pics on their websites just because a hunter may be looking at the site. I needed to get that off my chest. Stand proud and cherish our hunting/trapping livestyle and to hell with the antis and their narrow-minded, mis-informed views. :](*,) :thumbsup1: |
