I was considering putting in for Unit 26. Unit 26 is one of the wildest places in the State, and probably the lower 48. Last time I checked - 500 square miles of area accessed only by plane, horse, watercraft, or if you want to walk a REAL long ways, foot. You can get a little ways into 26 by road - but lots and lots of hours just to get to the end of the road that gets you to just the beginning of the unit.
It used to be that to land at a backcountry strip - you first flew over and looked - to make sure no moose or elk were on the runway.
This year - none, zero, nada, zilch permits ...
The wolves got them all.
I guess I could put in for moose closer to home - just won't be the same.
Maybe I'll put in for sheep. |
