Maybe you fellows need to order Howard Hill's book "Hunting the Hard Way"! I saw him shoot in my hometown when I was ten years old; 1950. He was promoting his film Tembo and I've hunted with his nephew Jerry Hill from Wilsonville, Alabama. Mr. Hill was one guy out of 20 billion that was blessed with a gift from God such that he could hit with a longbow......anything he looked at within range of his bow!! Read all about it:

The Jim Shockey show has a segment called the Big Ones and they often play clips of Howard Hill. He was truly amazing with a bow.

When Mr. Hill was a young man. His father bought his two older brothers each a rifle telling Howard he was to young for a rifle and got him a bow. The rest is history. One of the amazing clips that I saw was a long shot at a lion running perpendicular to his shot. With both the arrow and the lion in motion. Upon contact. The arrow hit the lion square in the chest and dropped him.

I have the film....of that shot! One can tell by the flight of the white fletching....that the shot is going to be very close! As it turned out....it was right on! One day I got to put my finger into the hole in the hide on that lion....when I was visiting Jerry Hill in Wilsonville, Alabama! :thumbsup1: :thumbsup1:

Another story I've heard about Mr. Hill is... When he was doing the stunt shooting for the Robin hood series, with Errol Flynn. After a few weeks of filming. The pay for the stunt men was reduced because there was no risk for them. I wonder if they gave Howard a raise.

Most of the bow hunters I hang with are traditional shooters. The father of one of the group was, at one time, the Washington state champion.

Of all the methods of hunting. I get the most gratification from the traditional bow. With five great shooters to choose from. I usually choose either the Martin Savannah long bow or the custom take down recurve I had made by a local Boyer. The custom takedown is one very fine shooter. It will out shoot and throw an arrow faster than a comparable weight and length renowned Black Widow. It's a wonderful bit of gear.

Howard Hill's book "Hunting the Hard Way" is wonderful reading. I also appreciated the link. Looking at the list of game harvested by Howard was rather interesting as well.

My favorite Howard Hill hunting story was when he shot the bison from horseback with his longbow. Truly amazing.

I once heard a story about Howard Hill. I'm not sure that it's 100% true, but it sounded accurate to me. The story went as follows:

They were shooting the movie Robin Hood with Errol Flynn when the director asked Howard if he could shoot an arrow into a target and split it with the next arrow as the story depicted. Howard apparently showed him by actually doing it................with several arrows..........one after another.
